Real-time computing power made possible by SoftBank's 5G NOMURA plans and displays interactive digital art at 5G X LAB OSAKA (from April 1st)
We planned and proposed the spatial design of the digital art "Immersive Motion," which is on displays at "5G X LAB OSAKA" in the Osaka Software Industry Plaza TEQS from April 1, 2021, and provided the content production services.
The entire digital production was handled by NOMLAB, an open innovation laboratory of NOMURA Group. This displays is a content that provides President and CEO and technical experience of MEC (multi-access edge computing) using the 5th generation mobile communication system (5G) of SoftBank Corp. (Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and CEO: Junichi Miyagawa). In recent years, live events, tourist and commercial facilities, museums, etc. have increasingly used digital technology to create interactive spatial presentations that match the movements of participants. While this has gained popularity due to its high experiential value, the need to build a large-scale server equipped with a GPU (graphics processing unit) at displays venue was a challenge for the organizers.
Therefore, NOMLAB planned and developed digital art that allows visitors to experience interactive spatial presentation using MEC's mechanism that processes and analyzes data by distributing the load on the edge side (near displays) without sending all data to the cloud, using SoftBank's 5G line and cloud rendering by edge computers in SoftBank's data center. The exhibit allows visitors to experience the four major characteristics of this technology: 1) simplified displays, 2) simplified operation and manipulation, 3) low latency communication, and 4) mobility and flexibility of installation location.
