NOMURA Co., Ltd. athlete Tetsuo Nishizaki (who competed in the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games) competed in the men's 49kg class at the Tokyo 2020 test event "READY STEADY TOKYO - Powerlifting" held on September 26, 2019.

This time, he changed his weight class from 54kg to 49kg and competed in this important match towards qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. He recorded 130kg and won the bronze medal, placing third (first for a Japanese athlete) in this event.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who supported us.

<Comment from Nishizaki>

Thank you for your support. In order to increase my chances of participating in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, I changed the class this time and participated in the 49kg class for the first time.

Although I fell just short of my goal of succeeding in all three attempts, the three judges raised the white flag in my first attempt at 126kg and my second attempt at 130kg, which gave me a real sense of the precision of my attempts after changing weight classes. Next, I will challenge for the Japanese record in the 49kg class at the domestic tournament in February next year, and at the world tournament I will raise my ranking in preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, and I hope to share Delight and Passion with all of you who support me.

Test events for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games will begin in earnest in July.

Currently, in various competitions, we are verifying the equipment and venues used in the actual event, the smooth operation of the competition, the operation of the volunteer staff, etc., and we are making full-fledged preparations for the success of the competition.

NOMURA is supporting the success of the Tokyo 2020 Games as an Associate Partner of READY STEADY TOKYO.
