At the first Wood City Tokyo Model Architecture Awards (sponsored by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Industrial and Labor Affairs), the Nihonbashi Toyamakan (client: Toyama Prefecture), for which we were in charge of creating the space, won the Women's Empowerment Award and the Encouragement Award.

The Wood City Tokyo Model Building Award was launched this year to recognize innovative and exemplary buildings or wooden spaces that pioneer new possibilities for wood use in Tokyo, with the aim of stimulating new demand for wood, promoting forest circulation in the Tama region and across the country, and promoting the growth of the forestry and wood industries.

This time, one Grand Prize, one Excellence Prize, one Women's Empowerment Prize, and seven Encouragement Prizes were selected, with Nihonbashi Toyamakan winning both the Women's Empowerment Prize (recipient: Museum Director Akiko Yamashita) and the Encouragement Prize (recipients: Toyama Prefecture and Nomura Co., NOMURA).

Nihonbashi Toyamakan is located in Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, and is a metropolitan area information hub that promotes "high-quality everyday lifestyles in Toyama." The challenge was how to express the essence of Toyama and how to convey the charm of Toyama, and one answer was to actively use wood from the prefecture. The designers and construction locally selected and procured materials from Toyama Prefecture at various stages of processing, such as logs, lumber, and processed products, and the materials are transformed into flooring, furniture, decorations, etc. using the skills of local craftsmen, making the most of them.

Director Yamashita Akiko served as project leader before the facility was established, and as director after it opened, and has promoted an integrated approach to both hard (installation) and soft (displays, events, etc.) aspects that make use of a woman's sensibilities.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to all the people who cooperated with us, including our clients.

We will continue to create environments that attract customers based on consumer ideas, always working to solve our customers' problems and meet their requests, providing optimal spaces that bring Delight and Passion.
