1. Purpose of establishing the guidelines
In order to contribute to the creation of a sustainable society and remain a company that is needed by society, NOMURA Group will formulate a sustainability policy in 2022. In addition, to enhance the feasibility of this policy, we have now established the NOMURA Group Code of Conduct.
NOMURA Group believes that in order to promote this Sustainability Policy and Code of Conduct, it is important to work in cooperation with the entire supply chain in partnership with our business partners.
In order to grow together as trusted partners, we have established these guidelines with the intention that you will also actively implement them and spread them to your business partners.

2. Overview of these guidelines
Based on NOMURA Group's Code of Conduct, it sets out guidelines for our corporate activities regarding not only improving quality and ensuring safety, but also respecting human rights, addressing the environment, and employee working conditions.

3. How to use these guidelines
We expect our business partners to cooperate with us in our efforts to achieve the various sustainability goals of NOMURA Group.
We would also appreciate it if you would understand the purpose of establishing these Guidelines, use them as a guide for formulating management policies in your own companies regarding human rights and the environment, and, as mentioned above, distribute these Guidelines to your business partners as well.
Furthermore, we may visit your place of business etc. as necessary to check compliance with these Guidelines and to facilitate mutual communication.
In addition, if any problem that violates these guidelines occurs, we ask that you promptly report it and take corrective measures. Please note that in the unlikely event that appropriate improvement efforts are not confirmed, we may reconsider placing an order with you.

 

Supply Chain Sustainability Action Guidelines

1. Compliance with laws and regulations
(1) Thorough awareness of legal compliance We will closely monitor the trends of laws and regulations that apply to our business activities and thoroughly comply with them.

- It is necessary to constantly check and confirm the latest trends in legal reforms, and to create a system for disseminating this information throughout the company through the establishment of internal structures and training, etc.

・We will regularly check to see if any violations of the law have occurred.

(2) Verification of industry practices, business practices, etc.
We prioritize compliance with laws and regulations over industry, business, and internal company practices.

- It is necessary to create a system to verify whether industry practices, business practices, and company practices violate laws and regulations and to communicate this to employees, etc.

- If we discover any business practices or internal operations that pose a risk of violating laws and regulations, we will instruct you to act in accordance with the law and check the implementation status after the fact.

2. Respect for human rights

We recognize the importance of human rights and respect the diversity of people both inside and outside our company who are involved in our business activities.

We also strive to create a corporate culture that is free of discrimination.
・We provide employees with training on human rights.
・We prohibit child labor and forced labor, and do not employ illegal workers.
- We do not tolerate discrimination of any kind on the basis of race, nationality, place of origin, language, religion, etc.
・We respect human rights and do not engage in any form of harassment, including sexual harassment or power harassment.

We will not use materials whose origins have been linked to human rights violations, environmental destruction, corruption, or conflict, including palm oil, fabrics (linen, etc.), clothing (uniforms, etc.), copper, iron, conflict minerals* (gold, tantalum, tungsten, tin), cobalt, and rubber.

* Conflict minerals: Minerals that are mined in conflict areas and serve as a source of funding for armed groups, etc.

・When hiring foreign nationals, we will not take away their identification documents such as passports or residence cards, bank account cards, or insurance cards.

・When hiring foreign nationals, we strive to create an environment in which they can work with peace of mind by providing them with a notice of working conditions and contracts in their native language, and by providing training in a language they can understand.

3. Gaining trust from customers and consumers
(1) Safety is the Top Priority

We place the safety of our customers and consumers as our top priority at every stage of our work, including design and construction.

- We give top priority to the safety of our products, goods and services before considering profits or reducing costs.

・We will implement structural safety checks from the design stage not only for buildings and works stipulated by law, but also for designated works that are separately stipulated.

・We will adhere to the design and implement appropriate quality, process, technology and engineering management.

・We will encourage defect completion inspection reports and provide sincere maintenance after delivery.

(2) Proper management of customer information

We will manage customer information in a particularly strict and appropriate manner.

- In order to prevent leaks and unauthorized use, we will establish rules regarding the handling of customer information and manage it strictly.

・We will regularly check the status of customer information management at our subcontractors.

(3) Ensuring traceability

・We implement traceable management during raw material procurement and manufacturing.

4. Mutual development with business partners
(1) Establishment of trading standards

We respect our business partners as equal partners, regardless of whether they are customers or suppliers or the size of their business.

・We will establish specific trading standards based on fairness and equality.

- When conducting business with overseas parties, we will establish trading standards that take into consideration differences in the laws, regulations and business practices of the countries in which our business partners are located.

5. anti-corruption
(1) Healthy Relationship with Politics and Government

Political donations and contributions will be made in accordance with the laws of each country, and we strive to build transparent and fair relationships with politics and government.

・When having relationships with politicians etc., we will conduct appropriate legal checks.

(2) Prevention of Unfair Benefits

We will not give or receive money or benefits to customers, suppliers, or other business partners for the purpose of obtaining or maintaining undue advantages.

- If we receive an order to build a public facility or set up a venue for an event hosted by the national or local government, for example, and we come into contact with public officials from Japan or abroad, we will pay careful attention to the relationship.

- We will not provide any money, goods or benefits to public officials.

- Bribery of public officials through a third party is also prohibited, so we will also be careful about indirect relationships.

6. Improving the working environment for employees
(1) Initiatives to improve the working environment

Always strive to maintain employee health and create a comfortable working environment.

- We strive to improve our operations by being conscious of creating an environment where employees can consult about working styles and work methods.

- Always be aware of the objectives of your work and ensure that you complete your work within the designated working hours.

・We will give full consideration to occupational safety and health.

- Provide education and training on occupational safety and health.

・We will take appropriate measures if there is an opportunity to come into contact with substances that are harmful to the human body (living things, chemicals, noise, foul odors, etc.).

(2) Improving employee morale

We always strive to create a comfortable working environment where employees can fully utilize their capabilities.

・We will create a system to disseminate our management philosophy and management policies to employees.

・We will evaluate and treat employees fairly and equitably based on their performance, etc.

7. Environmental Response
(1) Energy conservation and global warming prevention measures

We recognize the need for energy conservation and other measures to combat global warming, and will proactively work to reduce GHG emissions, including CO2, as part of our corporate activities.

・We strive to reduce the environmental impact and prevent environmental pollution.

・We will strive to reduce energy consumption and transition to renewable energy.

・We will separate waste from our offices and work sites, and contribute to reducing waste and promoting recycling.

・We will strictly limit the emission of fluorocarbons, asbestos, and other substances that have a large impact on the environment and are hazardous, in order to prevent environmental pollution.

・We will implement environmentally friendly planning and design proposals, contributing to reducing the environmental burden and preventing environmental pollution.

(2) Prevention of environmental pollution

We recognize the importance of preventing environmental pollution and will actively work to prevent it.

・We will closely monitor, inspect and confirm the trends of related laws and regulations (new laws, amendments, etc.), and create a system for communicating this to employees, etc. through training, etc.

・We will regularly check to see if there are any violations of relevant laws and regulations.

・We will actively engage in 3R activities: reducing waste generation, reusing, and recycling.

・If we have a factory, etc., we will process exhaust gas, wastewater, sludge, and chemical substances in a manner that takes into consideration the prevention of environmental pollution in accordance with laws and regulations.

(3) Consideration for the natural environment and biodiversity

We understand the impact of our business activities on the natural environment and biodiversity.

・We will consider the impact on the natural environment and biodiversity when procuring raw materials and producing our products.

・We use and develop products that have a low environmental impact.

・We will work on ecosystem conservation and greening activities.

8. Maintaining good relationships with stakeholders*

*This refers to employees, customers, business partners, creditors, local communities, shareholders, etc.

(1) Accuracy of financial and tax accounting

We will carry out appropriate accounting procedures in accordance with corporate accounting principles.

・We will provide timely and appropriate explanations of business results, business plans, etc., primarily financial information, after ensuring accuracy and reliability.

(2) Contributing to solving local issues

As a corporate citizen and member of modern society, we conduct our business with consideration for all people living in the neighborhood and at our work sites.

- At each worksite and business location, we will strive to build and maintain good relationships with our neighbors and act with the aim of contributing to the local community.

- We strive to minimize inconvenience to the neighborhood of construction sites and aim to build good relationships with local residents.

・We will actively participate in activities in the areas where our offices are located and promote and maintain good relationships with neighboring companies and individuals.

(3) Understanding of local culture, etc.

We understand and respect the history, culture, and customs of each region, and strive to conduct our business as a member of the local community.

・We will create a system for providing information to promote employees' understanding of the local history, culture, and customs.

・Through active participation in local events, students will gain a deeper understanding of local history, culture, and customs.

(4) Consideration for indigenous peoples

・If our supply chain includes areas inhabited by indigenous peoples, we will give appropriate consideration to environmental and human rights issues.

9. Breaking Apart from Antisocial Forces

We are determined to reject any association with antisocial forces.

We will cut off all ties with antisocial forces and reject any unreasonable demands.

If we receive unreasonable demands from antisocial forces or those believed to have ties to antisocial forces, we will respond in an organized manner.

When necessary, we will seek cooperation from external specialist agencies such as the police, the Anti-Violence Movement Promotion Center, the Japan Association for the Prevention of Special Organized Crime, and other intelligence agencies, as well as legal advisers, in dealing with anti-social forces.

10. Sustainable economic growth and solving social issues

Using digital technology, we aim to develop and maintain high-quality social infrastructure that also addresses disaster prevention, mitigation, and the environment.

・We will strive to develop and maintain sustainable and resilient social infrastructure, and actively deploy it.

- We will strive to strengthen the local industrial base, taking into account the local situation and characteristics.

- We will raise awareness of the importance of protecting intellectual property rights and use intellectual property appropriately.
