Human rights policy
NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Ltd. Group has adopted the management philosophy, "Based on respect for humanity, we contribute to creating a rich human environment through the creation of new value," and has clarified its social mission in its corporate activities.
To fulfill this social mission, we are committed to responsible corporate conduct based on dialogue with our stakeholders, and as part of this commitment, we aim to avoid human rights violations for all people. Therefore, we hereby establish this Human Rights Policy.
1. Respect for international norms and compliance with laws and regulations
We support and respect international human rights norms, including the International Bill of Human Rights and the principles of fundamental rights set forth in the International Labour Organization's (ILO) Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. We also comply with applicable laws, rules, and social norms in the countries and regions where we conduct business activities. Furthermore, we conduct our business activities in accordance with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
2. Scope of Application
This policy applies to all officers and employees of NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Ltd. Group (including contract employees, employees limited to specific projects, and dispatched employees), and we expect our business partners and other stakeholders involved in NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Group's business, products, or services, to understand and support this policy.
3. Human rights due diligence initiatives
In accordance with the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, we identify, prevent and reduce negative human rights impacts related to our business activities, evaluate the effectiveness of our efforts, and explain how we have addressed them.・We will establish a human rights due diligence system for information disclosure.
4. Key Initiatives for Respect for Human Rights
We will focus on the following matters.
(1) Prohibition of discrimination
・Prohibition of discrimination based on gender, age, nationality, ethnicity, race, place of birth, religion, creed, disability, injury or illness, sexual orientation, gender identity, etc.
(2) Respect for the rights of workers and vulnerable people related to business
・Prohibition of child labor and forced labor
・Respect for fundamental labor rights, including freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining
・Preventing low-wage work (work below the minimum wage or living wage)
・Prevention of long working hours
・Prohibition of all forms of harassment
・Ensuring occupational safety and health
・Ensuring worker health (including mental health)
・Prohibition of being complicit in human trafficking
(3) Respect for the rights of foreign workers
・Respect the rights of foreign workers, who are often in a vulnerable position, especially in domestic business
(4) Harmony with the local community
・Respecting the rights of local residents and indigenous peoples in the countries and regions where we operate
(5) Respect for privacy
- Respect for privacy, including the protection of personal information of business partners, officers, employees, and users of services provided by NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Group.
5. Governance System
The Board Directors of NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Ltd. is responsible for ensuring compliance with this policy and for overseeing its implementation.
6. Correction and Remedies
If it becomes clear that NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Group is causing or exacerbating negative impacts on human rights, we will utilize the internal reporting hotline published on our website to work towards correcting and remedying such actions. Furthermore, even if NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Group is not directly causing or exacerbating negative impacts on human rights, if its business, products, or services are directly related to such negative impacts, we will strive to correct or mitigate those negative impacts by working with other companies that caused or exacerbated the negative impacts, ensuring that human rights are respected and do not violate them.
7. Education/Training
We will provide appropriate education and training to all officers and employees so that this policy will take root throughout our business activities.
8. Dialogue and consultation with stakeholders
We intend to engage in dialogue and discussions with relevant stakeholders with a proactive attitude regarding the impact of NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Ltd. Group's business activities on human rights.
9. Disclosure of information
We will regularly disclose our efforts to respect human rights based on this policy.
