Human rights policy

NOMURA Group upholds the management philosophy of "We will contribute to creating an enriched human environment by creating new value based on respect for people," and clarifies the social mission of our corporate activities.
To achieve this social mission, we are committed to responsible corporate conduct based on dialogue with our stakeholders, and as part of that, we aim to avoid violations of the human rights of all people, and therefore we hereby establish this Human Rights Policy.
 
1. Respect for international norms and compliance with laws and regulations
We support and respect international human rights norms, such as the principles on fundamental rights set out in the International Bill of Human Rights and the International Labor Organization's (ILO) Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, and comply with the laws, regulations, and social norms that apply in the countries and regions in which we conduct our business. In addition, we conduct our business activities based on the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

2. Scope of application
This policy applies to all officers and employees of NOMURA Group (including all employees, including contract employees, employees limited to specific businesses, and temporary employees), and we expect business partners and other parties who make up the supply chain and those involved in the business, products, or services of NOMURA Group to also understand and support this policy.

3. Human rights due diligence initiatives
In accordance with the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, we identify, prevent and reduce negative human rights impacts related to our business activities, evaluate the effectiveness of our efforts, and explain how we have addressed them.・We will establish a human rights due diligence system for information disclosure.

4. Key Initiatives for Respect for Human Rights
We will focus on the following matters.

(1) Prohibition of discrimination
・Prohibition of discrimination based on gender, age, nationality, ethnicity, race, place of birth, religion, creed, disability, injury or illness, sexual orientation, gender identity, etc.

(2) Respect for the rights of workers and vulnerable people related to business
・Prohibition of child labor and forced labor
・Respect for fundamental labor rights, including freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining
・Preventing low-wage work (work below the minimum wage or living wage)
・Prevention of long working hours
・Prohibition of all forms of harassment
・Ensuring occupational safety and health
・Ensuring worker health (including mental health)
・Prohibition of being complicit in human trafficking

(3) Respect for the rights of foreign workers
・Respect the rights of foreign workers, who are often in a vulnerable position, especially in domestic business

(4) Harmony with the local community
・Respecting the rights of local residents and indigenous peoples in the countries and regions where we operate

(5) Respect for privacy
・Respect for privacy, including protection of personal information of business partners, executives, employees, and users of services provided by NOMURA Group

5. Governance System
Responsibility for complying with and overseeing the implementation of this policy commitment lies with the Board Board Directors of NOMURA, Ltd.

6. Correction and Remedies
If it becomes clear that NOMURA Group is causing or contributing to a negative impact on human rights, we will use the internal reporting system published on our website and work to correct and remedy the situation. Even if NOMURA Group has not directly contributed to a negative impact on human rights, if its business, products or services are directly related to the negative impact, we will endeavor to correct and mitigate the negative impact by influencing other companies that caused or contributed to the negative impact so as to respect and not infringe on human rights.

7. Education/Training
We will provide appropriate education and training to all officers and employees so that this policy will take root throughout our business activities.

8. Dialogue and consultation with stakeholders
We will engage in dialogue and discussions with relevant stakeholders with a view to proactively reaching out to them regarding the impact of NOMURA Group's business activities on human rights.

9. Disclosure of information
We will regularly disclose our efforts to respect human rights based on this policy.
