Pledging our support for Fairwood

As a company that uses a great deal of wood and wood products through its business activities that create "spaces," NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Group considers forest conservation and contributions to sustainable timber distribution to be important social responsibilities.
Therefore, in order to promote the proactive procurement of fair wood (legally and sustainably sourced timber), we have formulated the "Nomura Timber Procurement Guidelines" and are implementing a "Fair Wood Support Declaration" to our employees, business partners, and society at large.
We aim to provide added value to our customers through the utilization and support of fairwood.

Initiatives of NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Ltd. Group

NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Group has created the "NOMURA MANNER OF DESIGN" based on the "NOMURA Group Quality, Environment, and Safety Policy," aiming for all employees to provide added value to customers from an environmental perspective. The "NOMURA Wood Procurement Guidelines" and the "Fairwood Support Declaration" are positioned as important initiatives that form the core of this effort.

Nomura Timber Procurement Guidelines

Illegal logging and resulting deforestation are serious global problems. Deforestation leads to major environmental issues such as global warming and loss of biodiversity. Furthermore, the circulation of illegally logged timber drives down timber market prices, putting pressure on truly sustainable forest management. In this context, the active use of fair-sourced wood is an effective solution for protecting forests. NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Ltd. Group classifies its timber procurement into "safe," "unsafe," and "extremely high-risk" categories, verifying their legality and sustainability, and gradually improving by eliminating the "extremely high-risk" category.

The "Fairwood Support Declaration" is a declaration that widely communicates the guidelines set forth in the "Nomura Timber Procurement Guidelines," along with the aspirations for forest conservation and sustainable timber distribution embodied within them, both internally and externally, expressing our determination to fulfill our social responsibility.

Declaration of support for Fairwood with everyone

To make the "Fairwood Support Declaration" and its initiatives more effective, NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Group is providing explanations of the "Nomura Timber Procurement Guidelines" to its employees and business partners and promoting their awareness. In addition, the group is investigating and publishing information on "extremely high-risk" materials and their alternatives, as well as investigating sources of timber whose "safety has been confirmed," and is working to develop a support system that makes it easier for employees and business partners to obtain fairwood. Furthermore, the group is strengthening new initiatives such as conducting study sessions for employees and the industry as a whole, and carrying out experiential tours that connect forests and creators.
