Pledging our support for Fairwood

NOMURA Group uses a large amount of wood and wood products in its business activities to create "space," and we view contributing to forest conservation and sustainable timber distribution as an important social responsibility.
Therefore, in order to actively promote the procurement of fair wood (legal and sustainable wood), we have formulated the Nomura Timber Procurement Guidelines, and have made a Fair Wood Support Declaration to our employees, business partners, and society at large.
We aim to provide added value to our customers through the use of fairwood and our support activities.

NOMURA Group Initiatives

NOMURA Group has created the "NOMURA MANNER OF DESIGN" based on the "NOMURA Group Quality, Environment, and Safety Policy" and aims to enable all employees to provide added value to customers from an environmental perspective. The "Nomura Lumber Procurement Guidelines" and the "Fairwood Support Declaration" are positioned as important initiatives that will form the core of these efforts.

Nomura Timber Procurement Guidelines

The decline of forests due to illegal logging has become a serious problem worldwide. The decline of forests causes major environmental problems such as global warming and the decline of biodiversity. Furthermore, the circulation of illegally logged timber drives down timber market prices, putting pressure on sustainable forest management. In such cases, the active use of fair wood is an effective solution to protect forests. NOMURA Group classifies its timber procurement into "safety confirmed," "safety unconfirmed," and "high risk," and by verifying the legality and sustainability of the timber and eliminating the "high risk" timber, we aim to make gradual improvements to improve the situation.

Pledging our support for Fairwood

The "Fair Wood Support Declaration" is a declaration that broadly disseminates the guidelines established in the "Nomura Timber Procurement Guidelines" and the thoughts on forest protection and sustainable timber distribution embodied therein, both inside and outside the company, and expresses our determination to fulfill our social responsibilities.

Declaration of support for Fairwood with everyone

In order to make the "Fair Wood Support Declaration" and its efforts more actionable, NOMURA Group is explaining the "Nomura Wood Procurement Guidelines" to employees and business partners and making them widely known. In addition, we are investigating and publicizing "highly risky" materials and their alternatives, and investigating the sources of wood that have been "confirmed to be safe," and are working to establish a support system that makes it easier for employees and business partners to obtain fair wood. Furthermore, we are strengthening new initiatives, such as holding study sessions for the entire industry, including within the company, and implementing experience tours that connect forests and creators.
