Pledging our support for Fairwood

The NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Group uses a large amount of wood and wood products in its business activities to create "spaces," and we view contributing to forest conservation and sustainable wood distribution as an important social responsibility.
Therefore, we have formulated the Nomura Timber Procurement Guidelines to actively promote the procurement of fair wood (legal and sustainable timber), and have made a Fair Wood Support Declaration to our employees, business partners, and society at large.
We aim to provide added value to our customers through the use of fairwood and its support activities.

NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Group has created the "NOMURA MANNER OF DESIGN" based on the "NOMURA Group Quality, Environmental, and Safety Policy," and aims to enable all employees to provide added value to customers from an environmental perspective. The "Nomura Timber Procurement Guidelines" and the "Fair Wood Support Declaration" are positioned as important core initiatives.

Nomura Timber Procurement Guidelines

Deforestation due to illegal logging is a serious global issue. Deforestation causes major environmental problems, including global warming and a decline in biodiversity. Furthermore, the distribution of illegally harvested timber lowers timber market prices, putting pressure on sustainable forest management. In such cases, the active use of fairwood is an effective solution to protect forests. NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Group categorizes its timber procurement into "safety confirmed," "safety unconfirmed," and "extremely high risk" categories, and by verifying its legality and sustainability and eliminating "extremely high risk," we aim to make step-by-step improvements.

The "Fair Wood Support Declaration" is a declaration that widely disseminates the guidelines set out in the "Nomura Timber Procurement Guidelines" and the desire for forest protection and sustainable timber distribution that are embodied in them, both inside and outside the company, and expresses our determination to fulfill our social responsibilities.

Declaration of support for Fairwood with everyone

To further put the "Fair Wood Support Declaration" and its efforts into practice, NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Group is explaining the "Nomura Timber Procurement Guidelines" to employees and business partners and promoting their awareness. We are also investigating and disclosing "highly risky" materials and their alternatives, as well as investigating sources of timber whose safety has been confirmed, and are working to establish a support system that makes it easier for employees and business partners to obtain fair wood. Furthermore, we are strengthening our new initiatives, including holding study sessions for the entire industry, including within the company, and implementing hands-on tours that connect forests and creators.
