Wandaria Yokohama Supported by Umios
overview
"Wandaria Yokohama Supported by Umios" is an immersive experience facility planned and operated by DeNA, which opened in "BASEGATE Yokohama Kannai," a large-scale mixed-use complex in front of JR Kannai Station. Our company was in charge of the basic concept, spatial design, and some of the construction of the Wandaria Cafe and Wandaria Shop.
Through the unique effects of digital imagery, lush forests and the mysterious deep sea unfold before your eyes, creating an overwhelmingly immersive experience that fosters new encounters with living creatures and nature. Furthermore, the immersive experience is enhanced by linking with a dedicated app. By holding a smartphone over the creatures that appear, detailed information can be obtained, and they can be collected as cards, encouraging exploration, collection, and learning. This expands visitors' perception and curiosity, creating a space to re-examine the world from a new perspective.
Issues/requests
While achieving nature positivity* is a global social issue, consumers rarely have the opportunity to recognize its importance on their own. Furthermore, physical facilities need to offer not only entertainment but also experiential value that allows for learning and discovery, as well as appeal that makes people want to share it on social media.
Against this social backdrop, DeNA conceived a new experiential facility where visitors could learn while enjoying nature positivity, based on their concept of "edutainment," which fuses "entertainment" and "education." On the other hand, this was DeNA's first development of a physical experiential facility, and a major challenge was to transform digital content into a spatial experience and materialize it in a way that visitors could intuitively feel the value of.
* Nature restoration. Stopping the loss of biodiversity and putting it back on a path to recovery.
solution
In addition to drawings and CG renderings, we effectively utilized VR, models, and full-scale mockups to visualize the completed image and build a co-creation process with our clients. Furthermore, by considering spatial design and special equipment design as an integrated process, we planned an immersive facility where content, presentation, and space are seamlessly integrated.
By combining DeNA's content development capabilities with our spatial design and specialized equipment design expertise, we have embodied the social issue of nature positivity as edutainment that allows visitors to naturally understand and relate to the issue while having fun. We have co-created new facility value that balances entertainment and educational value.
