We Labo 24th floor

This is a renovation project for the 24th floor of Okamura's headquarter office, 'We Labo,' a company specializing in office furniture and store fixtures.
For the complete renovation of one floor, under the design of Okamura's creative team, our company was responsible for construction of the interiors construction work.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, working styles have diversified, and there is a growing need to propose and communicate new ways of working in product planning and creative departments. As We labo had not previously been prepared with tours in mind, this renovation was carried out to create a live office that is distinct from the other floors.

Okamura's concept design theme is "Made by HANDS," which embodies the following two meanings:
① An office where tenants can take ownership of the renovation and express their attempt to create a space while thinking for themselves.
② An office created by "our" hands.

We received a request to incorporate elements that would make the above themes easily relatable to the diverse range of visitors who will come after the opening.

As the creators of this project, we focused particularly on point ② and proposed a system that would allow people to develop an attachment to the space by actually getting their hands dirty, such as by organizing workshops involving Okamura's designers.

When displaying the material samples collected during the process as art on the walls, we held layout workshops and provided opportunities for participants to try painting on the days when special coatings construction. These hands-on experiences related to the actual construction were well-received.

Furthermore, at the start of the project, we created hand-drawn plans for the custom-made furniture to confirm the design intent and vision, and when creating the original character models, we made handmade mockups to ensure a clear understanding of the final image. By embodying the "Made by HANDS" philosophy on our end, we fostered excellent communication, enabling the client, designers, and craftsmen to work together seamlessly within the limited timeframe. This resulted in a highly successful project.

Of all construction I've been in charge of as a designer, this was the highest quality project I've ever worked on.
