overview

The event was held at Tokyo Midtown Hibiya, sponsored by Mitsui Fudosan and Discover Japan, with the aim of creating an opportunity to think about a society in which we can live sustainably with greenery. It was an in-person event based on the theme of "Living with Trees," a special feature in the magazine "Discover Japan" published in August 2023.
The atrium on the first floor was used as the introduction area to symbolize the event. In order to displays a space that would envelop the woodcarvings, our company adopted the concept of "interacting with wood," an experience that would be given to all five senses while being enveloped in the scent, sound, and light of wood. We were in charge design, layout, and construction of this spatial presentation. In addition, a panel exhibition in the underground passage of Tokyo Midtown Hibiya introduced our R&D activities, "concept design by Hand," and displays actual prototypes.

Issues/requests

The purpose of this event was to create an opportunity to think about a society in which we can live sustainably together with greenery, and we received a request to create a space where people could experience once again the relationship between Japanese people and wood, and to introduce our company's initiatives that fit the theme of the event.

solution

As part of our social good R&D activities, the space was concept design by members of "Tezain," a group that aims to realize a business that balances the creation of rich spaces with the creation of forests for the future.
In cooperation with forestry and lumber producers in Hanno City, Saitama Prefecture, we used wood chips and cylinders that would normally be used for fuel or civil engineering materials, and transformed them into an installation in the introduction area. In order to make the most of the value of wood, we are working with the production area to reuse all wooden materials even after the event ends.
