THE HOTEL HIGASHIYAMA is located in Higashiyama, Kyoto, where many cultural and artistic facilities are gathered and where you can feel a variety of cultures. It is a hotel where you can feel the beauty of nature in various ways, and the purpose of your stay is to stay.
After passing through the entrance, guests are first greeted by the plastered lobby, which displays original art works that can only be seen at this hotel. Raise expectations.
The original program "Kyoto Iroha", which touches on the unique aesthetics of Kyoto and enhances the charm of your stay, allows you to enjoy and feel the culture that has long lived in Kyoto and Japan, approached from five different angles according to your five senses. You can actually see, feel, smell, taste, touch, hear, and use your hands, and learn and enjoy the culture of Kyoto from the "Iroha" through menus that can only be experienced here.
In Higashiyama, where you can enjoy the tasteful sensibility, this is a hotel that offers a "deepening" journey as an entrance to a trip to the extremes of Kyoto.
From the beginning, our main target was inbound demand, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were forced to make a major change in the plan from the middle stage of the project.
We were asked to create a lodging space that would allow us to approach a greater number of targets, mainly Japanese people, and that would serve as a base for experiencing the culture of Kyoto, starting with the neighboring Okazaki district.
In addition to the space concept design, we proposed a unique way of our hotel that creates a new relationship with traditional craftsmen, such as tea sets that are directly linked to the customer's experience, guest room amenities and artwork.
By creating tea boxes, DD card signs, and fragrant sesame using bamboo crafts, and by coordinating textile artists and Kyoto Nishijin textile craftsmen, we realized expressions using textiles made of noncombustible materials made of glass fiber. In terms of public spaces, we have created concept design that many customers can enjoy, such as the function of a counter where you can enjoy tea and a private spa, and plans that match various usage scenes in the restaurant.
