Nihon Tetra Pak Co., Ltd. Gotemba Technical Center
overview
Tetra Pak is a global leader in food processing and paper packaging systems, founded in Sweden in 1951.
The Gotemba Technical Center serves as a core base for domestic technical services for Tetra Pak Japan, the Japanese subsidiary. It plays a vital role in product support by conducting demonstrations of filling and packaging systems, quality control, and analysis and evaluation of paper containers.
The facility celebrated its 25th anniversary since relocating to Gotemba in 1999. Therefore, a large-scale renovation project was undertaken to transform the space into one where visitors can experience innovation for new product development and sustainability initiatives through displays and digital tools.
Mr. Pike was in charge of concept design, and Mr. Jones Lang LaSalle was in charge of overall project management. Our company participated in this project as the overall construction company for interiors.
To create concept design that convincingly showcases Tetra Pak's advanced technology, the entrance lobby, where guests are welcomed, is concept design around three core elements: sharp, paper-fold-like shapes that represent the foundation of the company's business; linear lighting that emphasizes these folds; and pure white to express the company's pride in safety as a food-related business. In the showroom, where actual business negotiations take place, the above concept is followed, and a wood-grain color scheme is incorporated to further express Tetra Pak's approach to sustainability.
Issues/requests
The Gotemba Technical Center plays an important role in helping client companies recognize the value of Tetra Pak, and as the main objective of this project was to fundamentally strengthen this role, it was necessary to come up with a way to surprise and leave a lasting impression on guests who visited the site.
In addition, the following issues were identified on the construction side.
The following issues were also identified: ∙ Investigation of the specifications for custom-made pendant lights for the installation of wall-mounted line lighting and special effects, as well as construction investigation to realize a three-dimensional design.
The project had to be completed within a limited schedule while maintaining the functions of the technical center.
solution
In the center of the entrance lobby where guests first visit, a large triangular pyramid-shaped pendant light symbolizing the Tetra Pak brand is hung, and RGB dimming is also incorporated to create a centripetal space that immediately draws guests into the world of Tetra Pak.
construction In considering it, we thoroughly coordinated and examined it among the parties involved while repeatedly creating mock-ups of custom-made pendant lights and verifying samples of line lighting, and took shape through trial and error.
In addition, in order to realize a three-dimensional design, we paid attention to details, such as considering the fit between the existing wall and the new wall, and repeatedly coordinated the details with the designer.
In promoting the construction, we maintained a system that allowed the technical center to operate during the construction period, switching and adjusting it on a weekly basis, while ensuring safety by dividing the section into a traffic area for employees and a construction area, and maintaining a system that allows the technical center to operate during the construction period, and while switching and adjusting it on a weekly basis, we carried out close cooperation with the facility managers.
In addition, while scheduling a wide range of approval work and procedures in advance, we flexibly responded to events that would become known after demolition at the site and additional requests from customers, and smoothly proceeded with construction planning and promotion at the same time. In the end, despite a limited schedule, all the people involved worked together to complete this project, leading to the realization of the reopening of the facility, which will be the 25th anniversary.
Customer's voice
Despite the tight schedule, the project, including the overall construction, was completed as planned. Many customers have visited the facility since the renovation, and we at Tetra Pak have been able to provide even more comprehensive product development support.
