Technos College Tokyo Institute of Technology Game Creator Department Classroom Renewal
overview
This project involved the renovation of the practical training room for the Game Creator Department at Technos College Tokyo Institute of Technology (Koganei City, Tokyo). Our company was responsible for everything from concept design and environmental features to interiors construction.
It started with the initial request to create a classroom where students could imagine themselves working at a game company five years from now. Through repeated interviews with teachers, it became clear that the underlying sentiment was "we want them to imagine their own future without being confined to the game industry."
Therefore, we proposed a concept design concept called "Game Creator's Labo" to encourage students to imagine themselves as creators in the future, without being confined to the realm of games.
Issues/requests
Students were asked to become aware of how the field of game creation is related to society so that they could imagine their "post-graduation vision*," which is the core of Technos College's learning.
At the same time, it was also important to create a sense of immersion that would allow the Game Creator students to express their creativity and become engrossed in their learning.
*"Post-Graduation Vision"...The core concept of Technos College's learning. Explore the "changes" and "future" of society and the industry you are aiming for, imagine situations and work styles in which you can express your individuality, and plan the learning and experiences necessary to achieve that. solution
To help students build their careers as creators, we have created a classroom that fosters the generation of ideas and opportunities to encounter other fields.
The classroom concept design blends retro-modern elements with gaming culture, resulting in a sophisticated concept design that, while incorporating gaming-inspired icons, colors, and concept design throughout, creates a space that stimulates students' creativity.
Regarding the zoning, we have created three areas: "Study," where students can learn about both old and new game cultures, from analog board games to the latest VR; "Create," which is the core of the lessons, including group work, lectures, and hands-on activities; and "Communication," which serves as a place for students to deepen their interactions with each other and with students from other departments.
In particular, the "Communication" area, which was located in the corridor in front of the classrooms and was not included in the initial requirements, was realized thanks to our proposal from the client. We believed that creating a comfortable lodging area in a passageway where students from different departments come and go, and revitalizing interaction, would be important for the students' career development as creators.
Furthermore, to make it more appealing to students, we named this area "GAME LABO."
With this renovation project as a starting point, we aim to create a place where students can think about their future through interdisciplinary exchange.
