This new style community lounge was made possible by Sunshine City Co., Ltd. taking over the vacant space on the third floor food and beverage floor of Sunshine City Alpa.
We were responsible for planning support, design, layout and construction.
Comprised of a lounge space where workers can do desk work and a kitchen space where different businesses will operate during lunchtime, the space is suited to a variety of situations, including not only work but also meals, relaxation and use for events. There is also a cafe space with BYRON BAY coffee, a popular organic coffee shop, and the lounge space is open to all kinds of people, serving as a place to connect people and people, a place where a wide variety of people can gather and a base for promoting new communities, with no restrictions on how it can be used.
The facility's name, "SOLARIUM," means "sundial" in Latin, making it an original name that is fitting for a place where different people gather and interact depending on the time of day.
[Social issues/customer issues/requests]
Due to the changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, the options for where to work have increased, which is why there was a demand for a proposal for a flexible community lounge that could accommodate these changes.
The project called for flexibility in the space and the creation of opportunities for communication, proposing a co-working space with an attached kitchen, possible only because the section is located on a food and beverage floor, and creating a community lounge that can be used by local people as well as workers.
[Solution]
All main tables are fitted with casters to accommodate a variety of situations. In addition, to allow you to work or eat comfortably, we offer a variety of seating options to suit your purpose and mood, including box-shaped seats for individual work, a sofa area for a quick break, and a high counter for casual conversation over a cup of coffee.
To communicate that this is a place for connections with the local community, we commissioned FACE, a globally active artist originally from Toshima Ward, to create a piece of art based on the themes of "diversity" and "the city of Ikebukuro," which has been boldly laid out on the glass surfaces of the space.
By clearing away the image of Sunshine City to date in a positive way, we hope to express that the city is a place that takes a step forward and embraces new values.
