overview
In Shiranuka Town, in order to pass on the spirit and culture of the indigenous Ainu people to future generations, the town is promoting urban development based on the idea that the entire town is an "Ior (traditional living space)," and has now opened the Shiranuka Ainu Museum "Pokor," which introduces the Ainu culture passed down in the town.
The facility's name, "Pokor," reflects the desire of the Shiranuka Ainu people to "cherish the place where they were born and raised," and this desire is expressed through elaborate dioramas that depict Ainu life, realistic reproductions of every nook and cranny of the cise (Ainu dwelling), traditional crafts and beautiful costumes, and the soundscape of the "Ior (traditional living space)" that envelops the entire facility. This is a facility where you can experience with all five senses the vividly depicted rich Ainu life and deepen your understanding by experiencing the Ainu culture that has lived in the harsh yet magnificent nature.
Issues/requests
The request was to create displays facility where visitors could experience Ainu culture and lifestyle, which are unfamiliar to the general public, through all five senses, primarily using dioramas and full-scale displays.
solution
We have made efforts to allow visitors to experience the Ainu culture with all five senses by incorporating dioramas, full-scale displays, and additional touches throughout the museum. Specifically, the dioramas feature projection mapping to convey the lifestyle of the people in an Ainu kotan (Ainu village), while the full-scale displays and the entire museum play traditional Ainu sounds to help visitors further develop their image of Ainu life.
