Shinjuku Center Building Sustainable Lounge "i-ma"
This was a project to plan, design and construction an employee lounge for office tenants in Shinjuku Center Building. We participated in this project from the upstream stage, proposing business planning, basic concepts, operational support, and concept naming. We responded with concept design that took into consideration the possibility of repurposing the space in other areas (vacant lots) as a place for demonstration experiments.
A place where office workers could reset and refresh their minds during breaks or lunch was required. In addition, to ensure the sustainability of this business, the future flexibility of the space was a theme, and a "temporary concept design" was required, with movable fixtures and the possibility of reusing the space in other areas (vacant spaces).
To ensure that the space can always adapt to change, no new floors, walls or ceilings were installed, and it was constructed entirely from single-wall pipes. The lighting and fixtures are all joined to the single-wall pipes, making the space possible with a minimal number of elements. At the same time, the space is constructed to ensure a balanced feel with plants and lighting, ensuring a comfortable atmosphere despite its temporary nature. The structural walls and floors have been left in the same condition as when the occupancy was made, so it can be easily restored to its original state by simply dismantling the single-wall pipes, making concept design thoroughly embodies the flexibility of being able to easily relocate the space.
