overview
This museum tells the history of transportation in Sapporo. It aims to be a facility where visitors can "learn, experience, and enjoy" the diverse evolution of Sapporo's transportation system, from horse-drawn trams and streetcars to buses and subways, in line with societal changes.
The museum's displays, centered around a ride on the wooden No. 22 streetcar that was active in Sapporo since the Taisho era, displays for observing actual historical materials, displays allow visitors to hear the sounds of Sapporo's transportation, displays where visitors can operate a subway model, and displays where visitors can pretend to be staff members. Through displays and information concept design that stimulates a variety of senses, we designed and construction an exhibit that will leave a lasting impression on visitors.
Our Hokkaido branch and Head Office office planners specializing in museums collaborated to create a collaborative system, enabling us to leverage our local expertise to quickly collaborate with clients while simultaneously designing informational explanations and experiences appropriate for a museum within public transportation.
Issues/requests
We received a request regarding the creation of displays for a facility operated by Sapporo Municipal Transportation that "contributes to citizens by creating a place for learning and experience while conveying history."
solution
We created displays that conveys the history of Sapporo's municipal transportation system, which is connected to the current transportation system, to visitors from multiple perspectives, including explanations that follow the flow of time and explanations using displays materials from each era.
By employing displays techniques such as "touching, listening, moving, role-playing, and leaving behind thoughts," we created a highly experiential displays that goes beyond mere observation, allowing visitors to actively engage with Sapporo Municipal displays.
While production proceeded based on the design and customer requests, we achieved flexible construction by adjusting and redesigning the design as needed to address any issues that arose during construction.
