overview

In order to contribute to the promotion of SDGs in Higashiyodogawa Ward, Osaka Prefecture, and to create a space where visitors can feel relaxed and comfortable, Higashiyodogawa Ward Office has renovated with wood, primarily in the waiting areas on the first and second floors.

The renewal concept is "Treeful." This is a coined word that expresses a state in which the area is filled with trees (tree). It conveys the message that just as a wide variety of trees come together to create a rich, strong, and sustainable mountain, the diversity of the people living in this town creates a rich society.
"Treeful" is a space filled with the diverse charms of wood, created by incorporating an abundance of wood from Osaka Prefecture into an area of Higashiyodogawa Ward Office that is visible to many users, and with the cooperation of local residents through workshops.

*This project was carried out using the Forest Environment Grant Tax.

Issues/requests

By using domestic timber for interiors woodwork and introducing wooden fixtures, the aim is to create an attractive wooden space for users of the building and to make the development work toward achieving four or more of the 17 development goals of the SDGs.

solution

In addition to environmental improvement using domestic wood, we held an experiential workshop to learn about SDGs and wood education, aiming to create a space that fosters communication between the ward office and residents. At "Everyone's Bench," the 17 goals of the SDGs were explained in an easy-to-understand manner, and participants were asked to dye the wooden sticks of the bench with the color assigned to each goal, imbuing them with their dreams for the future. At "Everyone's Tree," participants were asked to dye sliced logs representing leaves in their own colors while learning about the role of forests and the challenges facing forestry.

All of the wood, which the residents dyed with their own personal touch, was used without selection and incorporated into the space as a symbol of diversity.
