Nippon Television Big Clock concept design by Hayao Miyazaki
The "NTV Big Clock concept design by Hayao Miyazaki" (mechanical clock) was created by animation master director Hayao Miyazaki on the wall of the Nippon Television Headquarters Building in Shiodome. The entire clock is covered in copper plates hammered by hand, and is approximately 12 meters high and 18 meters wide. It is one of the largest mechanical clocks in Japan, with 32 mechanisms scattered throughout it that work together to create a story. It started with a single sketch and took about four years to complete. Characters that control "sound" and characters that control "movement" live inside the clock, and the entire clock creates a single song. The melody played by this clock reverberates around Shiodome for about three minutes several times a day.
