This is a renovation project for Morioka City Library, including seismic retrofitting. After being closed for about two and a half years, it reopened on April 2, 2024. The concept of the library is "A library where knowledge circulates and grows freely with people and the city." Like the ecosystem of "Takamatsu Pond" that spreads out before us, we aim to create a library where Morioka's knowledge and people naturally gather, connect, and circulate back to the community.
In addition to planning, designing, producing and construction the interior space of the facility, we were also responsible for the VI, including the logo.
The challenge was to improve the library's appeal and meet the needs of the citizens.
Specifically, they requested that the library be made more attractive to local residents by making the most of the limited space available, and that it be created in a space that reflects the essence of Morioka, and where anyone can study comfortably.
We designed the space through a bookshelf layout that ensured individual space, and created sign and graphic concept design that were characteristic of Morioka. We also devised a rotating display bookshelf where artefacts and other items can be displayed.
