MITSUKOSHI BGC

"MITSUKOSHI BGC" is a mixed-use commercial facility based on the concept of "NEXT MANILA LIFESTYLE," set in the international city of Bonifacio Global City, delivering a new lifestyle co-created by Japan and the Philippines. Our company was in charge of the basic concept and concept design of the common areas, and we propose a comfortable facility on a human scale by incorporating elements of traditional Japanese place-making such as "sando" (approach to a shrine) and "tori-niwa" (passageway garden) into the layout of open shops that create the joy of shopping and the spacious commercial space.
In the center of the facility, a ceiling featuring "Joining Hands," an iconic concept design that expresses the project's desire to be a bridge between the Philippines and Japan, will welcome visitors. The design depicts two hands joined together with a Japanese twist.

Given that this is the first mixed-use development project in the Philippines involving both a Japanese department store and a Japanese developer, and also the first commercial facility opened in the country by the Mitsukoshi Isetan Group, the aim was to create a facility that would allow Filipino customers to experience "Japanese culture."
Furthermore, the request extended beyond just spatial concept design; it also included a process of working closely with both Japanese and Filipino businesses to consider and realize what aspects of Japanese-style hospitality and meticulous attention to detail to incorporate.

Rather than simply incorporating Japanese elements as they are, we have created a unique style for "MITSUKOSHI BGC" by reconstructing the spatial composition and design that create a comfortable Japanese atmosphere, the sense of space and openness, and the unique Japanese aesthetic sense regarding volume, in a form that is unique to this facility.
Furthermore, as a collaboration between Philippine and Japanese hospitality, we incorporated elements into concept design that will ensure the facility is loved by the local community for a long time, such as connections with the surrounding environment and the use of local materials. In addition, we carefully built up a wide range of aspects together with the business operator, including area-specific concepts tailored to merchandising, planning that considers the flow of customers so that they can enjoy shopping, and the placement of well-equipped restrooms and kids' rooms, to realize a facility that serves as a bridge between Japan and the Philippines.

We have received high praise not only from our joint venture partners but also from local customers, as we have carefully examined and considered the local culture and background of the project before making a proposal.
