overview

The food court on the first basement floor of Haneda Airport's Terminal 1, which is connected to Keikyu Railway and Tokyo Monorail stations, has been renovated into a new food zone called "Sora Chika."
Before the renovation, the area and number of seats were approximately 540 m2 and 130 seats, but after the renovation, they were nearly doubled to approximately 1,000 m2 and 200 seats.
Based on the concept of "a moment at the beginning and end of your journey," the airport aims to be a place where everyone can relax and enjoy the diverse needs of airport users, such as a hearty meal before departure, a tea break, or the purchase of bento boxes and prepared foods to take on board.

Issues/requests

As the food court is located in a secluded area behind the elevators, we faced the challenge of increasing its visibility.
Additionally, we needed to design a fixture layout that would accommodate customers with large luggage such as carry-on bags, and create a space that could accommodate all hours of the day, from early morning until late at night (bar time).

solution

To make the food court visible at a glance from afar, a new facade gate was installed, and a logo sign reminiscent of the curves of an airplane taking off was installed to enhance its presence.
The layout makes effective use of space by selecting chairs that allow luggage to be placed on the backrest. Also, by carefully considering the size of the fixtures, we ensured sufficient aisle width and seat spacing, allowing people with carry-on bags to pass each other comfortably.
Additionally, the lighting plan was designed to vary depending on the time of day: morning, noon, and night, creating a waking atmosphere, a lively daytime atmosphere, and a calming nighttime atmosphere.
