Qatar Pavilion at the 2025 World Expo in Japan
overview
This pavilion for the Osaka-Kansai Expo uses realistic materials to express the rich stories of Qatar's people, land, and sea. The space is composed of real sand that recreates the desert landscape with delicate gradations, aluminum that resembles the deep sea covering the floor, walls, and ceiling, and a giant curtain with intricate embroidery that symbolizes the country's cultural richness. We designed an experiential displays space in which Qatar's traditional crafts and landscapes emerge in a fantastical way amid materials that directly appeal to the visitor's sensibilities.
Issues/requests
Expressing Qatar's nature and culture using realistic materials, the project aimed to create displays space that would appeal to the sensibilities of visitors. It also required meticulous design and high-quality construction, down to the finest details of displays space, including the structure and materials of the main object in the center of displays room.
solution
We communicated closely with OMA, who was involved in schematic design of displays production and content creation, and proceeded with working drawings through repeated discussions. In addition, in order to fulfill the client's wishes to the greatest extent possible, we steadily implemented a detailed construction plan, which enabled us to realize a high-quality displays space that appeals to the sensibilities of visitors.
