overview

We were responsible for design, layout, sign and graphic concept design, interior administration, furniture and fixture manufacturing, environmental features, and construction of the restaurant "Lounge & Dining" at the 2025 World Exposition, Japan (Osaka-Kansai Expo).
The facility is concept design to be a "place of hospitality" to welcome guests from Japan and abroad, achieving both high-quality spatial presentation and comfort.
We aimed to create a space that would create a memorable and special experience for people from all over the world.

Issues/requests

This project required a complex program that would allow three spaces with different functions and personalities - a dining area, a counter area, and a reception room - to coexist within a single facility called the "lounge and dining."The challenge was to elevate these spaces to create a unified experience while still retaining their individuality.
Spatial harmony with the entire building was also an important theme, and concept design approach was required in which the interior would not be subordinate to the architecture, but would complement each other.

solution

In response to the request to achieve both "uniqueness of the place" and "wholeness" in the space, the sushi and teppanyaki counters are designed to bring out the liveliness and appeal of the craftsmen's skills, while the lounge and buffet area are designed to be open and easy to move around in, creating a rhythm in the movement and stay of visitors.
In order to visually express the architectural concept of "wind flow," we created custom lighting with scale and texture. The design creates soft shadows, and we proceeded with development in close consultation with design administration regarding everything from the shape to the installation position.
