Azabudai Hills was born as a redevelopment project that took about 35 years to complete, and its concept is "A Modern Urban Village, a town surrounded by greenery and like a 'plaza' that connects people together", with the theme of "Green & Wellness". With a vast central plaza at the heart of the town, it was born as the "future form of Hills", highly fusing various urban functions such as offices, residences, hotels, international schools, commercial facilities, and cultural facilities.
With around 150 stores spread across this lush area, the commercial complex aims to make daily working, living and lifestyles richer and more creative.
In particular, the commercial area that spreads across the lower floors of Tower Plaza has a commercial area of approximately 9,000m2, faces the central plaza, and has a three-story atrium space that is positioned as the center of the town. This environmental plan is based on the motif of "FABRIC" as an element to harmonize with the town, attract visitors to the upper floors, and encourage movement within the floors, and is composed of materials and details. It provides a comfortable, high-quality space that is enveloped in soft curves, and offers an attractive spatial experience as a place that proposes a truly rich lifestyle for the coming age.
The project as a whole faced several challenges, including the fact that it was not originally located in a commercial location, the site shape was complex and the traffic flow plan was not ideal, and the target area was more than two floors above the main floor level (central plaza level), and was a built-in type facility.
We defined "FABRIC" as the element that makes up the entire space, and by adopting an expression method that corresponds to the issue based on one keyword, we were able to solve the following issues while maintaining a sense of unity as an area.
・In an area where plans by multiple architects and designers are being planned, we have managed to achieve harmony with the city as a whole while also creating a distinctive commercial district.
・The symbolic "ribbon" design of the office entrance is designed to draw people to the upper floors by extending it into the commercial zone.
・To prevent the feeling of claustrophobia even though the facility is built into a building, we incorporated elements that draw in natural light, greenery, and breezes, while at the same time promoting mobility throughout the entire floor and on each floor.
- The comfort of being enveloped in soft curves and the high quality created by the humidity and weight of the texture give users a sense of intimacy and comfort that makes them feel like they are in their own space.
