Allbirds Marunouchi

A former professional football player (Tim Brown) and a biotech expert (Joey Zwillinger) researched and developed innovative and sustainable shoes using natural materials such as merino wool, eucalyptus and sugar cane. It was a success and the lifestyle brand Allbirds was born. Established in San Francisco in 2016, it landed in Japan in 2020, and following the Harajuku store, the Marunouchi store, the second store in Japan, opened in June 2021.
As a local architect for Allbirds, we provided support from the design stage.

By obtaining a section for two stores, sunlight enters through the wide glass façade, and the inside of the store can be seen from Marunouchi Naka-dori, making it easy for customers to enter and creating a bright and open space.
There are two entrances, a unique door handle in the shape of a large wooden foot, and a lineup of T-shirts, room wear, and performance wear made from natural materials that are soft to the touch in the center of the store. The shoes are displayed by type according to their materials and functions, and the floors and walls are decorated with cloud-shaped mirrors, and a solid wooden chair that slopes to make it easier to try on the shoes. The interior is simple yet playful. It consists of

Faithfully creating the world view of a global brand with about 35 stores around the world, communicating closely with the person in charge in San Francisco, the home country, and coherently carrying out the work from the schematic design stage to completion as a single company. There was a request for more than being able to handle it.

We provided comprehensive management, including resolution of legal issues related to design, negotiations with developers, material procurement, detailed working drawings, construction, schedule and cost management, sound and video systems, and furniture import coordination. .
In order to respond to the request to send information from Japan to the world in the future, we pay tribute to Allbirds' concept design philosophy of "sustainability" that respects nature and the environment, and respond to it. We are considering interiors materials and space composition for future store openings.
