overview

At the initial stage of planning, Akikusa Gakuen contacted us to inquire about earthquake-resistance renovation work on their gymnasium.
In conjunction with the earthquake-resistance construction and renewal of the gymnasium façade and interiors, the school received a request to change the corridor connecting the school building and the gymnasium from "dark and damp to a bright and clean corridor that can be left as a space for the school to be passed down to future generations." In response, we decided to concept design a corridor that would express the identity of Akikusa Gakuen.
The most important thing in this project was to create a space that people would continue to love. Therefore, we worked with students in a workshop to create the starting point of concept design, and worked on a "progressive concept design" that would generate attachment and be passed down.
The students were asked to bring in photographs that embodied the essence of autumn grass, and we decided to extract the feelings that were put into words in the form of "#XX", elevate them into concept design, and display them in the hallway.
By having the students digest concept design as if it were their own and spread it to those around them, we hoped that the "Akikusa-ness" would be passed down from generation to generation and that people would continue to interact with the space with affection.

Issues/requests

The client's requests included a complete concept design of the gymnasium in conjunction with earthquake-resistance renovation, and creating a space that can be passed down for future generations.

solution

We held workshops to extract from the students what makes the school unique, such as its good points and brand image, and created concept design that can be handed down to future generations.

Customer's voice

We are extremely grateful for the thoroughness with which we received from the planning stage through construction to completion.
We feel that this was a very meaningful project for our university, as it allowed our students to reconsider what "Akikusa-ness" means and be involved in the task of making it a reality, and also allowed us to receive support from the alumni association for our alma mater.
We were delighted to see so many students cheering as they looked at the walkway after it was completed, and we hope to use this information to promote the project in the future.
