Our company's vision is to "unlock all possibilities in space, starting with the 'creativity' of each individual," and we are committed to creating spaces that enrich people's lives. As part of this, we continue to participate in design events both domestically and internationally to tackle social issues from a creative perspective and to create a cycle of communication, exchange, and innovation through output. We will also be taking on a new challenge at "DESIGNART TOKYO 2026," following on from last year.

■ Nomura Co., Ltd. "SEPARATION: Unraveling Space"

In our previous three exhibitions, we have explored questions and design approaches toward a sustainable society. This time, "SEPARATION: Unraveling Space" is a project that looks beyond the design stage to what happens after demolition and beyond, in order to connect resources to the future.

Many of the spatial design projects we are involved in have short cycles from construction to demolition, and waste is generated each time. In particular, "mixed waste," which uses a combination of various materials and is difficult to separate during demolition, makes reuse and recycling difficult and is one of the challenges in promoting resource circulation. Currently, mixed waste accounts for approximately 40% * of the waste generated from our construction sites. Visiting industrial waste treatment sites during the research process and experiencing the reality firsthand made our previously held awareness of the challenges much clearer and more concrete.

At Nomura Co., Ltd., we have always strived to reduce waste associated with space creation. In order to reduce the amount of mixed waste and realize more sustainable space creation, we believe it is necessary to adopt a design perspective that allows walls and furniture that make up a space to be separated into materials when dismantled. We strongly feel that looking at the entire lifecycle of a space in order to connect resources to the future is something that only we, who are involved in space creation, can do.

In this initiative, we will re-examine the rational fitting and manufacturing wisdom cultivated over the years from a different perspective, and by using modern science and technology as a guide, we will explore new design possibilities in which the materials that make up a space connect to the next cycle.

■REFINVERSE Group Designed by Nomura Co., Ltd. no.10 "= (Equals)"
This project is a collaboration between Refineverse, which creates new products using waste as a resource, and Nomura Kogeisha's No. 10. By re-examining the boundary between waste and resources, and through a new value system of "waste = resource," it proposes a future where all things have equal value.

In our daily lives, we tend to perceive "resources" and "waste" as distinct entities. Resources are necessary items produced by nature, while waste is unnecessary items created by humans. This way of thinking is deeply ingrained in our lives. However, much of what we call "waste" has simply served its purpose; it hasn't lost its inherent value. Disused fishing nets, milk cartons, and carpets, for example, can be recycled as new materials, becoming necessary resources for society once again, if we change our perspective. In other words, waste can be redefined not as "things that have lost their value," but as "resources whose value has been lost."

Refineverse uses its unique technology to regenerate materials that were previously considered waste, proposing the idea that "waste equals resources." This initiative aims to rediscover the value that was lost due to the label "waste" and pass it on to the next cycle as a new resource.

In this exhibition, the "= (equals sign)" is used as a symbol to represent this value, expressing the idea that "all things have equal value." What separates "resources" from "waste" is the difference in value that humans have assigned to them. By removing that boundary, everything can become a resource that will carry on the next cycle, and each can be seen as having equal value.
Through the symbol "=", we propose a value system where not only "resources" and "waste," but all things are equivalent.

We are a company that uses waste materials to create new products.
Creating materials and products from things that would otherwise have to be thrown away, and making them commercially viable.
It not only contributes to solving environmental problems, but also creates new value for society.
Leveraging the power of business to realize a circular economy. A company that transforms waste into wealth.

■UACJ x Nomura Co., Ltd. "Aluminum is coming to life"
This project, a collaboration between UACJ Corporation, a globally operating comprehensive aluminum manufacturer, and Nomura Co., Ltd., aims to explore the lesser-known aspects of aluminum, a sustainable material, and expand its appeal and potential.

Aluminum is an industrial material. This material, which is commonplace in our daily lives, has been uniformly controlled to suit human purposes within modern industrial society. In this one-way relationship, aluminum has come to give us the impression of being a hard, uniform, "unmoving industrial material." However, that is merely one state of aluminum, controlled by processing.

It dissolves like water, bends like cloth, and reflects light while shimmering like the surface of water.

There, you'll find aluminum moving as freely as an organic material. "Aluminum Comes to Life" focuses on these moments of freedom, as if aluminum possessing a will of its own, and is an exhibition that confronts the material head-on and explores its possibilities.

Stretch. Bend. Shake. Shine light on.

Rather than unilaterally imposing a shape upon it, by sometimes accepting the movement of the material and paying close attention to the inherent properties and behavior of aluminum itself, we can see various aspects that have been overlooked until now. And when its role is complete, it is melted down, transformed, and returns to our activities once again.

In this exhibition, we explore, as a trial, the softness, fluidity, serendipity, and cyclical nature that we discovered while working with aluminum. Through a new perspective on the material, we propose an opportunity to consider the appeal and potential of aluminum, and its future relationship with sustainable materials.

UACJ Corporation is a globally operating comprehensive aluminum manufacturer. With the slogan "A lighter world made possible by aluminum," we aim to contribute to the realization of a sustainable and prosperous society through technologies that bring out the full potential of the material.
We supply aluminum sheets, foils, extruded, cast, forged, and processed products to a wide range of fields, including beverage cans, automobiles, IT equipment, air conditioning, and aerospace/defense. Leveraging the technology we have cultivated over more than 125 years since starting aluminum rolling, we support people's lives and industries. Furthermore, we are promoting recycling in various fields to build a circular economy for aluminum.
