User-driven design allows for flexible space updates and adapts to changing work styles without the need for tools.
—Available for purchase from April 7, 2026 / Introduced at Kanto Gakuin University—

NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Ltd., a comprehensive spatial design company, and Komatsu Wall Industry Co., Ltd., a comprehensive manufacturer of partitions, will begin selling their jointly developed new product, "KICHI+", on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. "KICHI+" is a unit furniture that combines the high storage capacity of a shelf with the livability of a desk. Its features include a minimalist concept design that blends into a variety of spaces and the ability for users to easily change the layout of their office or other space without using tools. NOMURA Co.,Ltd. was responsible for the concept design development and supervision of this product, while Komatsu Wall Industry was responsible for the design and prototype verification.

The product concept of "KICHI+" is "A growing 'base' that makes the space exciting."
With the user's ingenuity and ideas, offices and workspaces can be freely expanded.
"KICHI+"* aims to become a "base (KICHI)" for working people, growing together with users while freely expanding their usual workspace.

It employs an original "snap button system" that allows shelf height to be changed intuitively without the need for tools, and is flexible enough to adapt to changes in the working environment and purpose. Therefore, it is intended for use in places characterized by flexible working styles that adapt to change, or highly specialized and project-oriented work, such as setup offices, back offices in commercial facilities, hotels, and factories, and work areas, laboratories, and studios in educational and research institutions.

Furthermore, the shelves feature a large 2400mm span and slender frames, creating a sense of openness and concept design that blends seamlessly into the space. The dimensions are designed to allow for both individual concentration and natural interaction, achieving a balance between individual work and communication. By securing individual spaces without partitions and creating a unified space that allows for a clear view to the back, activities can be gently divided. Natural communication among users is fostered, spreading vitality throughout the space, which is expected to lead to better working styles and improved well-being.

Development background of "KICHI+"
This project was launched as a business of the "Future Creation Research Institute," an in-house research and development organization of NOMURA Co.,Ltd. While researching the future of offices, the institute focused on the current situation where investment in improving office operations and renovating them is required as organizations grow, their activities change, and the workplaces diversify. Against the backdrop of these changing times, they concluded that what is required of modern offices is to create a "place" where people naturally want to gather, and that in order to achieve this, variability that allows users themselves to reconfigure the space in order to adapt to change is essential for offices.

Meanwhile, Komatsu Wall Industry has honed its technology for functionally dividing spaces over many years through products such as movable partitions and toilet booths. After much discussion between the two companies, they concluded that a "shelf-based fixture" that combines storage and versatility and can create a gentle boundary in a space was the optimal solution. By combining this with Komatsu Wall Industry's advanced manufacturing and construction technologies, the product was successfully commercialized.

Features of "KICHI+"

1. High spatial efficiency created by W2400mm x H2400mm

With dimensions of W2400mm x H2400mm, the same height as a typical partition, it achieves a "spacious proportion" that doesn't feel cramped. The size is suitable for both group work and individual activities where you want ample space.

Vertical Utilization: By utilizing the upper shelves, storage capacity is maximized even in limited floor space.
Openness: The large 2400mm span and mesh shelving allow sight, light, and air to pass through. This creates a "just right distance" that allows you to feel the presence of those around you while still protecting your own concentration.

2. concept design stripped down to the bare essentials.

Its simple design, retaining only the basic structure, allows it to blend seamlessly into any space. The mix of contrasting materials—wooden plywood tabletop and steel—adds warmth to otherwise sterile workspaces. Despite its slender structure, it ensures sufficient load-bearing capacity.

3. No tools required. The shelf height can be adjusted with an intuitive "snap button system."

Traditionally, changing the shelf height of commercial furniture required hiring a specialist and using specialized tools. "KICHI+" employs an original snap-button system, allowing users to easily adjust the height themselves by simply unfastening the buttons. It also supports adjustments in 50mm increments, offering flexible adaptation to changing environments and applications.
