NOMURA Co.,Ltd., Ltd. adopts Uniqlo for uniform renewal | Aiming to improve employee well-being

NOMURA Co.,Ltd., a company specializing in spatial design and production, has completely redesigned the uniforms worn primarily by employees managing construction sites for the first time in approximately 10 years, in order to respond to climate change, diversification of human resources, and changes in work styles. The new uniforms are an original concept design by Uniqlo and combine functionality and concept design. The aim was to create uniforms that allow employees to work safely and healthily while also embodying the pride of a professional, reflecting the manufacturing mindset and creativity that NOMURA Co.,Ltd. has cherished as part of its corporate culture since its founding. The new uniforms will be worn starting September 3, 2025. In addition, some of the old work clothes will be collected and upcycled as interiors materials for use in the company's offices.
Currently, the interiors and displays industry faces challenges such as heatstroke prevention and the need to accommodate the diversity of production management staff (production directors). Our employee survey*1 revealed that, in addition to concept design, employees also desired features in uniforms such as breathability, elasticity, quick-drying properties, odor control, and the ability to accommodate diversity.
The new uniforms incorporate these opinions, and with the cooperation of Uniqlo, four items—jackets, pants, shirts, and polo shirts—we have created original concept design.
With a wide range of sizes available to ensure a comfortable fit for everyone, and in response to the increasing proportion of women in production management positions*2, we have also added women's sizes. We have also taken into consideration the ease with which necessary tools can be worn on-site. Furthermore, the material used is highly elastic, lightweight, and quick-drying. In terms of concept design, it embodies NOMURA Co.,Ltd. 's corporate culture and professionalism.
Employees who tried them on said things like, "The increased breathability means I can work in peace even in the heat of summer," "It's easy to move around in and work in, and it's comfortable to wear even for long periods of time," "It's wrinkle-resistant, so I think it gives people a sense of trust," and "I can choose the size that suits me, so it fits my body well."
This uniform redesign is expected to improve employee performance, motivation, and engagement. In the long term, we hope it will also contribute to enhancing the brand image of the interiors and displays industry.
*1 Survey participants: 1,195 people who received old work clothes from NOMURA Co.,Ltd. / Number of valid responses: 833 (response rate: 69.7%) / Survey date: July 2024
*2 Percentage of women in production management positions at NOMURA Co.,Ltd.: Approximately doubled in 10 years. 7% in 2014 (10 years ago), 15% in 2024 (last year).
Background of the uniform renewal
The workflow of NOMURA Co.,Ltd. and the working style of production managers (production directors)
NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Ltd. comprehensively produces spaces, from planning concept design to construction management and operation, for a wide range of spaces, from large-scale complexes to museums and exhibitions. The process is mainly handled by four types of professionals: sales, planning, concept design, and production management (production director). Among these, production management (production director), who is in charge of the on-site work, has a wide range of responsibilities, not only in construction management, but also in considering how to realize concept design, budget management and ordering, coordinating on-site craftsmen and related parties, and managing the process, quality, and safety during construction.

Requests from the survey
In preparation for the uniform redesign, we conducted a survey to understand the current usage patterns.
construction sites often require work to be done before air conditioning is installed, making heatstroke prevention especially crucial during the summer months. Work involves a lot of movement, including standing, sitting, crouching, walking, and climbing up and down on scaffolding. Functionally, breathability, elasticity, quick-drying properties, and odor control were essential.
The frequency of uniform wear varied 50/50 between construction sites and other locations such as offices and client sites, so there was a need for variations that could be worn in both settings. In addition, with the recent increase in the proportion of women in production management positions, there was a request for sizes and silhouettes that are easy for women to wear.
Regarding concept design, we collaborated closely with Uniqlo to create concept design that reflects NOMURA Co.,Ltd. 's corporate culture, professionalism, and trustworthiness.
