On Wednesday, July 2, 2025, a new indoor playground called "mirocco" will open in Kakegawa City, Shizuoka Prefecture. It aims to be a place where children can not only enjoy playing to their heart's content, but also where families and people from the local community can have fun together.

This facility is a renovated version of the swimming pool and hot spring facilities that were located in "Tamarina," an indoor facility in the 22nd Century Hill Park in Mitsumizu, Kakegawa City. It has been redeveloped into an all-weather playground. NOMURA Co.,Ltd. is comprehensively in charge of everything from formulating the facility concept and design to construction of the interior, interiors equipment, and decorations, as well as the operation of the facility. We will operate this facility by utilizing our expertise in regional revitalization and facility management.

Furthermore, as part of the DBO* project's independent initiative, NOMURA Co.,Ltd. has made private investments in this facility, enhancing its appeal through the addition of playground equipment, custom-made furniture and fixtures, signage, and graphics.

Facility Concept/Space concept design
The facility's concept is "Let's create everyday moments that make your heart flutter." The name "mirocco" was chosen by vote, reflecting the hope that it will become a place where everyone can gather and where people will want to come 365 days a year (3=mi/6=ro/5=ko).

The main areas are "Guruguru no Yama," where children can play with playground equipment; "Wakuwaku Base," a quiet area for children to play; "Hitoyasumi Lounge," where adults can relax; and "Haihai no Hara," a safe area for babies to play in. In addition to these areas, "This Is Cafe," which has stores throughout Shizuoka Prefecture, will be opening a new location within Tamarina, offering a menu that is easy for customers of all ages to enjoy.

The facility's interiors, including playground equipment and benches, utilizes local resources. Environmentally conscious materials are used throughout, such as benches made from locally sourced timber, a workshop space that uses scraps and waste materials as crafting materials, and plaster walls made from soil from Kakegawa.

*DBO: Design Build Operate is a business model used to develop public facilities. The public sector commissions private businesses to design, build, and operate the facility.

left: The swirling mountain
This is the facility's largest main area, where children can move their bodies and play on playground equipment. By utilizing the pool's excavation, we have created dynamic play equipment that encourages vertical movement. The combination of net-based play equipment, slides, swings, and other multifaceted play structures fosters diverse motor skills. Furthermore, the area surrounding the play equipment is covered with artificial turf, providing a soft texture where children can run around and play freely.

In contrast to the winding mountain, this is a quiet area for play. We incorporate activities that stimulate children's senses, such as crafts using leftover and recycled interiors materials, and pretend play. We plan to continue receiving leftover and recycled materials from Material Bank and local companies, and we will hold many workshops and events with companies and local organizations. In the future, we plan to hold workshops in collaboration with Yamaha and Shiseido, which have factories in Kakegawa, and events with Material Bank.

Aiming to be "comfortable for everyone," this is an area where not only children but also parents can relax. In the space separated from the play area, there is a sofa where parents and children can relax together, overlooking the courtyard.

right: Crawling Field
This is an area for 0-2 year olds and their guardians. The enclosed cushioned flooring means babies can play safely. There are many colorful toys with interesting sounds and textures to enjoy.
