NOMURA Co.,Ltd. 's "Future Creation Research Institute" and Dentsu's spatial concept design team "Ba to Henshu" will hold the second session of their open research program "BA?" on Monday, January 27, 2025, in Roppongi, Tokyo.

The Future Creation Institute is our creative research institution, conducting various R&D activities to update the value of space. Place and Editing is Dentsu's specialized team that emphasizes real "places" and "experiences," concept design brands from a story-driven and sustainable perspective. In "BA?", members with their respective areas of expertise will explore the concept of "place" through dialogue based on their own work and experiences.

What is a "place"?

For example, something that can be touched, that moves people, that makes people want to be involved. There may be a moment when not only an architectural space, but even a single line of words or a single photograph can become a place.

BA? is an open research program in which members of two spin-out teams, the Future Creation Institute and Place and Editing, each with their own areas of expertise, discuss their own work and experiences while observing and collecting wild places.

Following on from the first theme, "Planning, business and place-making," the second theme will be "When a place is born," and we hope to discuss "place" while crossing the boundaries between soft and hard aspects.

Head of NOMLAB, Future Creation Research Institute, Creative Division

Joined NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Ltd. in 2001. As a designer, I have directed a wide range of projects, including spaces, displays, and experiential content for corporate and regional promotions. As projects addressing social issues such as diversity and SDGs have increased, I have also taken on the role of managing the company's social good strategy. Since 2024, I have served concurrently as the head of concept design department and the head of the NOMLAB (Nomura Lab for Future Creation), an R&D center that conducts R&D activities aimed at space creation starting from creativity. What I enjoy most right now is creating projects that connect the "special skills" of various people and companies to produce new expressions, experiences, and interesting things.
