Toba Hotel International reopens on 60th anniversary | NOMURA is responsible for the renovation concept design, FF&E, and construction of multiple areas

Toba Hotel International (Toba City, Mie Prefecture) will celebrate its 60th anniversary in March 2024 by reopening after renovation. Since opening in 1964, it has welcomed dignitaries from Japan and abroad, including the Japanese Imperial Family, as the "Guest House of Ise-Shima" for over half a century. This time, the hotel has renovated the terrace, where you can experience the panoramic view of Toba Bay and cuisine unique to Ise-Shima, as well as the entrance floor, club lounge, and guest rooms. NOMURA Ltd. is responsible for the renovation concept design, FF&E, construction of multiple areas, providing an even more attractive stay experience and a space filled with hospitality than ever before.

This renovation incorporated the concept of biophilic concept design, respecting the beauty of nature and the diversity of life. concept design is intended to allow guests to feel connected to Toba's magnificent nature through the space while in a relaxed state. The spectacular view takes center stage, and interiors uses locally sourced materials such as limestone and Jindai wood, with motifs of ocean ripples, flowing water, ridgelines, and mother-of-pearl scattered throughout.

NOMURA works in cooperation with the tourism industry to help create spaces such as hospitality facilities, cultural facilities, and parks in the Chubu region. We will continue to demonstrate our creativity and contribute to the creation of attractive cities.

*Biophilic concept design: A spatial concept design method that reflects the concept of biophilia, which states that humans have an innate desire to connect with nature. We have been involved with Toba Hotel International since 2014, starting with the renovation of the chapel, and then renovating the hotel exterior and Japanese restaurant. In this full-scale renovation, we aimed to create an ocean resort where you can enjoy a leisurely time, just like the tranquil climate of Toba, with concept design that resonates with the nature of Toba.

With the theme of "keep things simple," he focuses on spatial concept design that values the atmosphere and context of the place. His most recent project is the luxury hotel "TIAD, AUTOGRAPH COLLECTION" (2023/Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture).
