Overview of Nagasaki Kaido Kamome Market
Applicant company:
Kyushu Railway Company, JR Nagasaki City Co., Ltd., and NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Co., Ltd.
Concept:
Nagasaki, the city of sea and light
On the façade of a newly constructed commercial facility in front of the ticket gates of Nagasaki Station, which is the land entrance facing the harbor, we used custom-made blue and white tiles with the motif of Seigaiha Waves to express the waterside of Nagasaki Port and the glittering light between the waves. Did. By mixing the raw material (glass) of Nagasaki's souvenir "Vidro" into the glaze, we create a sparkle that is unique to the region. Did.
Judge's comment:
This is the facade of a commercial facility in Nagasaki that sells local food and souvenirs. While many such facilities use flat graphics and feature a monotonous concept design, the "Nagasaki Kaido Kamome Market" boldly applies custom-made tiles to the upper part of the facade. By using a variety of colors and patterns, it creates a three-dimensional and rich expression. Furthermore, because these tiles do not have overly specific patterns, they can appear as the surface of the sea or a sky filled with flying seagulls, resulting in a multifaceted concept design that likely evokes different impressions depending on the viewer.
