SoftBank's 5G enables real-time computing power: NOMURA Co.,Ltd. plans and displays interactive digital art at 5G X LAB OSAKA (from April 1st).

Since April 1, 2021, our company has been planning, proposing, and providing the content creation services for the digital art installation "Immersive Motion," which is on displays at "5G X LAB OSAKA" within the Osaka City Soft Industry Plaza TEQS.

The entire digital production was handled by NOMLAB, the open innovation laboratory of NOMURA Co.,Ltd. Ltd. Group. This displays is President and CEO by SoftBank Corp. (Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and CEO: Junichi Miyakawa) that offers verification and technology experience of MEC (Multi-Access Edge Computing) utilizing the 5th generation mobile communication system (5G). In recent years, live events, tourist and commercial facilities, and art museums have increasingly utilized digital technology to create interactive spaces that respond to the movements of participants. While these have gained popularity due to their high experiential value, the need to build large-scale servers equipped with GPUs (Graphics Processing Units) at displays venues has been a challenge for organizers.

Therefore, NOMLAB planned and developed a digital art installation that allows visitors to experience an interactive spatial presentation using MEC (Multi-Access Control) technology, which distributes the load for data processing and analysis at the edge (near displays) without sending all data to the cloud, by utilizing SoftBank's 5G network and cloud rendering by edge computers located in SoftBank's data centers. The exhibit is designed to allow visitors to experience the four major characteristics of this displays: ① simplified installation, ② simplified operation, ③ low communication latency, and ④ mobility and flexibility of installation location.
