Tetsuo Nishizaki, a powerlifter affiliated with NOMURA Co., Ltd. (Men's 49kg class, participated in the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Paralympic Games), held the World Cup "Manchester 2021 Para Powerlifting World Cup" on Thursday, March 25, 2021 (local time). I participated in the 49kg class competition.
This tournament is positioned as part of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic pathway stipulated by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), so it is an important tournament that will be reflected in the rankings for Tokyo 2020 participation. The result was a Japanese record tie of 138 kg, 2nd place, and won the silver medal.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported us.

<Comment from Nishizaki>
Thank you for your support.
With the result of tying 138kg, which is the Japanese record for the 49kg class, I was able to improve my personal record * in the international competition and finish second. As a result, we were able to achieve the main goal of this tournament, which was to "protect the top Japanese team" in the rankings for Tokyo 2020.
I was able to confirm the possibility of the future with the successful results of the three trials, but I feel that there is still room for improvement in terms of the accuracy of the trials. Looking ahead to the Dubai World Cup in June, I would like to pursue “beautiful trials” and further strengthen my skills, and raise my number one goal, the Tokyo Para Ranking.

This time, the tournament was operated in a bubble format, but I was able to concentrate on the competition with peace of mind. In addition, despite the late-night remote support, 26 people from inside and outside the company supported us. Thank you very much to all the organizers, federations, and everyone who supported us.

* Recorded 133 kg at the Manchester 2020 World Cup.
This is the first time in the 54kg and 49kg classes that he has won second place in an international competition. The best so far is 3rd place.
