"Nihonbashi Toyamakan" won the "Wood City TOKYO Model Architecture Award"
We are pleased to announce that "Nihonbashi Toyama-kan" (client: Toyama Prefecture), for which our company was responsible for creating the interior space, has received the "Women's Empowerment Award" and the "Encouragement Award" at the 1st "Wood City TOKYO Model Architecture Awards" (organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Industrial and Labor Affairs).
The "Wood City TOKYO Model Architecture Award" was launched this year with the aim of promoting forest recycling throughout Japan, including the Tama region, and fostering the growth of the forestry and timber industry by recognizing innovative and exemplary buildings or wooden spaces in Tokyo that explore new possibilities for the use of wood, thereby stimulating new demand for wood.
This year, one work was selected for the Grand Prize, one for the Excellence Award, one for the Women's Empowerment Award, and seven for the Encouragement Award. Nihonbashi Toyama-kan received two awards: the Women's Empowerment Award (recipient: Director Akiko Yamashita) and the Encouragement Award (recipients: Toyama Prefecture and NOMURA Co.,Ltd.).
Nihonbashi Toyama-kan, located in Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, is a metropolitan area information hub that showcases "the high-quality lifestyle of everyday life in Toyama." The challenge was how to express the unique character of Toyama and how to convey its charm, and one solution was the active use of locally produced timber. The designers and construction selected and procured materials at various stages of production, including raw timber, sawn lumber, and processed products, on-site, and these materials were then transformed into flooring, furniture, decorative items, and other products by local craftsmen, making full use of the resources.
Director Akiko Yamashita, both as project leader before the facility's launch and as director after its opening, has been working to integrate both the hardware (design and layout) and software (displays, events, etc.) aspects of the facility, making the most of a woman's sensibilities.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to all the people who cooperated with us, including our clients.
Moving forward, we will continue to create highly attractive environments based on a consumer-centric approach, constantly addressing our customers' challenges and requests, and providing optimal spaces, Delight and Passion.
