overview

The Urbannet Midosuji Building is a newly constructed 100m-tall building located along Midosuji, Osaka's main street. It is a complex building primarily used for offices, with entertainment facilities located on the lower floors.
We considered it not as a standalone building, but as part of "urban development," and were conscious of creating a space that is integrated with the town and encourages interaction and activity by gently connecting the roadside and the indoor space. Furthermore, by providing office space that caters to new ways of working, we aimed to continue supporting the various activities of a diverse range of people and contribute to the future revitalization of Midosuji and the town.

Issues/requests

As "a next-generation workplace on Midosuji that gives meaning to coming to the office," the aim was to enhance the shared areas with the goal of improving the well-being and productivity of employees, and to create a new hub for communication by utilizing indoor and outdoor spaces, not only for employees of the tenant companies but also as a "building open to the city."
In addition to concept design and mechanisms that assist these diverse people and urban activities, the challenge was to express the natural environment, sense of place, and historical and cultural background that will be passed down from the past to the present and into the future, with an eye on the future "pedestrianization of Midosuji."

solution

concept design with the theme of "Midosuji x WELL-being," we aimed to create a building that would be a "driving force" supporting the growth of employees, tenant companies, and the city.

On the first floor, which connects to the city, we designed a three-dimensional pendant light that mimics the grid-like "streets and avenues" of Midosuji, concept design by the neon lights that symbolize the great Osaka era when Midosuji was built. Our aim was for it to become a new symbol of the building and the city.
At ground level, neon art is placed that integrates with seating functionality, adding to the enjoyment of walking through the city like street furniture and drawing people into the building.

Furthermore, from a well-being perspective, we chose natural elements as the theme for the key floor.

・2nd floor office lobby
The theme is "water." Digital signage combines art visuals of water columns that change over time with functional information displays, creating an advanced art form that harmonizes the city and nature, bringing movement and rhythm to static spaces and people's emotions.

・11th floor tenant-only lounge
The theme is "green," and by incorporating natural light and greenery from the three sides facing the city, and by continuously incorporating abundant greenery into the interior, we have created a bright and open lounge. As a way to gently connect the zones, we have created intermediate areas with green-filled furnishings, making it a space where people can choose to use it in various ways depending on the scene and mood. Furthermore, the ceiling is adorned with wood-toned louvers in a grid pattern that mimics the "streets and streets" of Midosuji, forming the framework of the lounge and embodying the inheritance of the urban context through concept design.

・Rooftop terrace
The theme is "earth." Composed of stone cages of varying sizes and heights, we created a space surrounded by earth and greenery where each person can spend their time as they wish.

Stairs on each key floor
We've incorporated paint art, creating variations on each floor to express diversity. This is an attempt to simultaneously achieve "mental well-being," which generates positive feelings through new insights, and "physical well-being," which contributes to improved health.

Throughout the entire building, we have incorporated concept design and art that evoke the urban context and nature, stimulating people's sensibilities and imaginations, and encouraging positive feelings and activities. Our aim is to create a space that fosters sustainable growth through a new "driving force."
