overview

T-LOGI Fukuoka Island City is located on Fukuoka City's only artificial island, surrounded by the sea and a container terminal. This facility is the largest logistics warehouse in Kyushu, with a total floor area of approximately 45,000 tsubo (approximately 135,000 square meters), and was jointly developed by Tokyo Tatemono Co., Ltd., Tokyu Land Corporation, Nishinippon Shimbun Co., Ltd., and Marubeni Corporation. Our company participated from the planning of concept design concept and basic concept, and was in charge of the design and construction of the employee break room and approach, as well as the design of the facility's common areas.

Issues/requests

As the largest facility under the T-LOGI brand, this project demanded a high level concept design that would overturn the conventional concept of a logistics facility. In particular, there were requests for features that would make the limited space appear as spacious as possible so that employees working long hours in the warehouse could properly refresh themselves, a layout that was easy for individual use, and an organic and timeless concept design that made the most of the materials.

solution

Because it is a massive logistics facility with a total floor area of approximately 45,000 tsubo (about 135,000 square meters), we concept design the facade with an emphasis on creating an easily accessible approach. In addition, by considering functionality, we aimed to create a human-scale interior space that enhances livability.

We started with the planning and development process, creating a concept that would allow the facility to blend seamlessly into the local community.
Taking advantage of the unique location of Island City, the common areas were designed under the concept of "T-LOGI SEAPORT," with the entrance designated as the "deck," the common corridors as the "terminal," the rest area as the "lido," and the toilets as the "cabins," creating a narrative. In terms of materials, in contrast to the inorganic warehouse space surrounded by concrete, the space was finished with an organic feel using wood grain and other materials.
The entrance, designated as the "deck," is inspired by the sails of a ship and the night view of Island City visible from the deck. The common corridor, designated as the "terminal," is designed to feel less long than its total length of 130 meters, with container-motif elevator halls and crane-motif lighting as accents. The rest area, designated as the "lido," features walls resembling stacked containers and a large table with a ship motif, and uses mirrors to create a sense of spaciousness. The restroom, designated as the "cabin," is a calming space with a wood-grain finish and a distinctive circular mirror reminiscent of a ship's window.
By incorporating concept design that reflects the unique character of Island City and its proximity to a container terminal, we aimed to differentiate the facility from others, enhance its value, and increase employee loyalty and satisfaction.
