overview

NOMURA exhibited at the SC Business Fair 2024, the largest event in the industry that brings together people involved in shopping centers. The event was held for three days from January 24th to 26th, 2024 at the Pacifico Yokohama displays Hall, and in addition to exhibiting at the booth, we also held a free seminar on the first day of the event.

The theme of this year's booth was "NOMURA 's vision of sustainable concept design." As part of our social good R&D activities, we are currently creating a "Sustainable concept design Manners Book" that will realize design, functionality, and environmental friendliness, and our booth was designed in accordance with the basic principles of the manners book.

As sustainability efforts become more diverse, we are also continuing to take on various challenges, such as developing upcycled materials. However, this time, we have returned to basic materials, which are indispensable in constructing a space and will continue to be deeply involved in the future, and focused on understanding the characteristics of each. We adopted wood, cement, acrylic, copper, and iron as basic materials, and arranged each of the square timbers in a grid pattern to give the space undulations, allowing visitors to enjoy conversation while wandering around the booth.

The proportion of each material used was calculated based on the embodied carbon emissions over the building's life cycle, and was designed to allow the characteristics of the materials to be sensed visually.
In addition, by using clamps* instead of screws or adhesives to join the components, materials can be reused and waste generated during dismantling is dramatically reduced, concept design the design's essential contribution to the environment.

Our aim was to create a booth that would allow visitors to think together about future approaches to sustainable concept design, and that would enable them to gain new insights and discoveries while also demonstrating responsibility and gratitude for materials.

*We use special clamps made for the "Tsunagi" project, which is planned and produced by Nikken Sekkei.
