Koala® Aoyama Store

This is the flagship store of Koala Sleep Japan, an Australian bedding brand. Its concept is an "urban oasis" where you can experience the nature and culture of Australia, even while in the city.
You can try out our flagship mattresses for a sleeping experience, as well as our versatile sofa beds. You can also enjoy a fun shopping experience unique to a physical store, browsing our cushions and rugs, which concept design inspired by the Australian wilderness. At the adjoining Koala Cafe, you can enjoy Allpress Espresso coffee and food menus that express the essence of "Aussie."

For a company that had previously focused on e-commerce sales, the Aoyama store played an important role as a new base for disseminating information about the brand, as well as a place where customers could experience the products. Taking advantage of its central city location, it needed a touchpoint that would allow it to approach both existing and potential customers.
In recent years, the company has expanded beyond its core product of mattresses to include a homewear collection of sofas, blankets, and other items that embody the relaxed lifestyle that originates in Australia. For this reason, it was necessary to design an experience that would allow customers to imagine a lifestyle while immersing themselves in the brand's unique relaxed worldview.

We placed a cafe and sofas at the entrance to create a touchpoint that would draw potential customers on their way to work, while in the back space, customers could experience sleeping on mattresses, creating a gradation of experiences that take advantage of the depth.
The brand's colors and wood textures, inspired by Australian nature, are used throughout the space, and interiors and fixture shapes have rounded corners, just like the mattresses and sofas on offer, creating a relaxed atmosphere that is characteristic of the brand.
