Keio University Preventive Medicine Center
overview
This project, a collaboration between Mori Building and Keio University, aims to create an innovative hub for next-generation preventive medicine, set against the backdrop of Azabudai Hills, a "Modern Urban Village" concept based on the two pillars of Green & Wellness. The center will expand and relocate from within the university hospital in Shinanomachi to two floors, the 5th and 6th floors, of the Mori JP Tower in Azabudai Hills. The 5th floor will offer personalized health checkups where patients can order examination menus according to their own needs, while the 6th floor will offer a newly established membership-based medical service, "Preventive Medicine Membership." AND was responsible for concept design of the common areas on the 5th and 6th floors, excluding the examination rooms.
Issues/requests
The preventive medicine center, which will serve as the core facility for the wellness collaboration, was required to be a facility unlike any other in terms of its size and anticipated customer base.
To embody Keio University's mission of "Realizing a rich and long-lived society where all people can live healthy and vibrant lives," to be a place that caters to each individual with a sense of exclusivity and quality, and to be a genuine innovation hub that implements academic results in society and shows the future of preventive medicine, it was necessary to create a new type of preventive medicine facility that had never been seen before.
solution
We believed that the most suitable setting for providing advanced preventive medicine would be a universal space that utilizes the natural power of materials. Since ancient times, natural materials have created comfort and given people relaxation and peace of mind, but in modern times, especially in medical facilities, it has become difficult to use them as interiors materials from the perspectives of hygiene, flammability, durability and cost. However, given the nature of this facility, visitors are not patients but patients seeking medical care, and the goal is to create a space where doctors and patients can build a flat relationship, leave with a sense of security, and where patients' tension is relieved and natural communication is encouraged. Therefore, we returned to basics and re-examined natural materials such as natural stone, solid wood, and Japanese paper, aiming for a universal and high-quality space that feels like an urban resort, even though it is in a building in the heart of the city.
Customer's voice
Patients have given it rave reviews, saying it's great that it doesn't have a hospital or clinic atmosphere.
