overview

We were responsible for design, layout, signage and graphic concept design, interior administration, furniture and fixture manufacturing, environmental features, and construction of the "Lounge & Dining" restaurant within the venue of the 2025 Japan International Exposition (Osaka-Kansai Expo).
This facility is concept design to be a welcoming space for guests from both Japan and abroad, combining high-quality spatial design with comfort.
Our aim was to create a space that would produce special experiences that would remain in the memories of people gathering from all over the world.

Issues/requests

This project required a complex program that brought together three spaces with different functions and characteristics—a dining area, a counter area, and a reception room—within a single facility called "Lounge & Dining." The challenge was to elevate these spaces so that they maintained their individuality while creating a unified and cohesive overall experience.
Spatial harmony with the overall architecture also became a crucial theme. concept design approach required was one where the interior complemented the architecture, rather than being subordinate to it.

solution

In response to the request to balance the "individuality of the space" and the "wholeness" of the space, the sushi and teppanyaki counters are designed to bring out the live atmosphere and the charm of the craftsmen's skills, while the lounge and buffet area are designed to be open and easy to move around in, creating a rhythm in the movement and stay of visitors.
To visually express the architectural concept of "wind flow," we created custom lighting fixtures with a specific scale and texture. Designed to produce soft shadows, the design progressed through close dialogue with design administration, down to the shape and installation location.
