Since opening in 2011 at the east exit of JR Urawa Station, East Medical Clinic's new medical facility in Urawa PARCO has been used for internal medicine, breast surgery, complete health checkups, and health checkups not only by local residents but also by many nearby companies. This is a relocation project to a mall.
The relocation opening comes after two years of consulting on the target property and redefining the mission as the scale of the clinic expanded.
The new facility's floor load and electrical capacity were at the same level as a general commercial facility, so the first challenge was whether it would be possible to accommodate large X-ray medical equipment and an X-ray protection area. In addition, the layout of the examination rooms and testing rooms, taking into account the operations of both the general outpatient clinic and the health checkup facility, had to be contained within an irregular, narrow space, and since the floor it was located on was adjacent to a cinema and had a high floor height of 7.5m, concept design had to overcome the uneven spatial composition. In addition, as we were also in charge of the branding work, a unified spatial concept design was also an important element.
For the hardware side, we worked with external brains to carefully calculate the electrical capacity, floor load distribution, and drainage location, and were able to overcome the challenges. Spaces with uneven height were concept design to take advantage of the height to create a dense waiting area, and the height of private rooms was kept low to create spaces where people can talk with ease.
In terms of layout, the reception desks for the general outpatient clinic and the health checkup facility are located at both ends of the block, and the examination rooms and testing rooms are all contained within an irregular, narrow block, while also being mindful of flexible operation that takes into account the operations of both.
We were alsoin charge of branding, and developed a logo and graphics (new VI) that embodied the ideal image of the clinic, which we set based on interviews with on-site staff: "A place that combines the essence of medical care with human warmth, where local people can gather with a sense of trust and security." We were able to create a unified spatial concept design by incorporating elements of the new VI into the space, such as the doors and signs.
