overview
BLUE YARD is a multi-purpose store that seamlessly connects three types of businesses: a dining establishment, a cafe stand, and a record shop, located in "Balchika 03," a food and beverage zone within "Innogate Osaka," a station building directly connected to JR Osaka Station.
In the dining area, you can enjoy modern American-style cuisine, including meat dishes grilled on a roasting machine, and live performances are held irregularly on the center stage equipped with professional sound. There is also a casual cafe stand and a record shop on the premises. Despite being a tenant in a station building, it boasts an area of over 200 tsubo (approximately 660 square meters), a seating layout that satisfies a wide variety of needs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and a spacious interior with a 4.8-meter high ceiling and panoramic views of the Umeda cityscape, creating a comfortable and high-quality entertainment space that combines convenience and sophistication.
Our company was responsible for design, layout.
Issues/requests
The challenges included how to integrate three different business types—a dining area, a cafe stand, and a record shop—into a single tenant space, and how to ensure a traversable evacuation route and two escape doors within the space, since it was originally two separate tenants combined into one.
Furthermore, given the regulations associated with the tenant environment of a newly constructed facility, there was a need for a space that not only had a relaxed concept design that made it seem as if it had always been there, but also conveyed a high-quality atmosphere and guaranteed authentic sound quality.
solution
We used the evacuation route that had previously divided the area to create an approach space that would act as a photo spot, and placed a glass-enclosed kitchen area and record shop adjacent to the entrance, creating a mechanism to heighten anticipation for the interior despite the open façade. We also set up a cafe area on the easily accessible store side, and gently divided the cafe area from the dining area by varying the floor and ceiling heights.
In order to maximize the acoustic quality of the dining area, careful adjustments were made to the equipment from the beginning of the planning, ensuring a maximum ceiling height of 4.8m. The interior of the restaurant is accentuated with basic materials such as antique wood, mortar, and black iron, and the iconic pendant lighting hanging from the high ceiling and the design lighting fixtures with a record motif scattered throughout create a spatial expression that colors the high-quality food and music experience that BLUE NOTE offers.
