NOMURA Co.,Ltd., Ltd. has launched a joint development project with the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan) and GATARI Inc., and is working together on the research and development of displays technologies.

This time, our company is participating as a collaborating company in the demonstration experiment "Miraikan Sound MR Tour," which is an event where everyone can experience a new system that allows them to enjoy displays through their ears, regardless of their level of vision (sight, blindness, or low vision). By utilizing mixed reality (MR) technology that plays audio information according to the user's position, it is possible to enjoy displays regardless of the level of vision.

This demonstration experiment utilizes "Auris," a system developed by GATARI Inc. that places sound into space, as a platform. It features "oto rea," an audio experience service planned and produced by NOMURA Co.,Ltd., designed to be enjoyable for both sighted and visually impaired individuals. Feedback received from participants will be used to improve future content development.

Come experience a next-generation museum tour that begins with your ears.

Demonstration experiment details

  • Participants will be equipped with a special smartphone and earphones and will explore the museum in a tour format, listening to audio guides and music that are synchronized with their position and movements.
  • As you walk along, guided by the voice of the tour guide, explanations of displays play in sync with your movements.
  • In displays, which is modeled after a module of the International Space Station, you can enjoy unique effects that only this system can provide, such as hearing communications between astronauts and ground control officers, or hearing "Hello!" coming from displays.
