overview

This is a renewal project for Toshimaen Station and Ikebukuro Station on the Seibu Railway Line in conjunction with the opening of Studio Tour Tokyo (Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo – The Making of Harry Potter), which was built on the site of the former Toshimaen building.

■Toshimaen Station
Based on the concept of "a station where imagination blends into everyday life," the station building has a simple concept design reminiscent of a gate connecting the everyday and the extraordinary, with added features that allow you to feel the magical world. The pillars on the platform, the station sign, the vending machines, etc. have been renovated with a red-based design reminiscent of "Hogsmeade Station," which leads to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Additionally, the glass surface at the top of the façade is used to display see-through LED images that change according to the time of day and season, creating a magical, floating effect.
In addition, as a legacy of Toshimaen, which closed in August 2020, model trains, telephone booth objects, benches, and objects made from wood grown within Toshimaen have been remade to suit a new concept and are on displays, making the station a beloved destination for local residents.

■Ikebukuro Station
Modeled after King's Cross Station in London, England, the walls of platforms 1 and 2, where trains to Toshimaen mainly depart and arrive, have been renovated to a brick pattern, and the station sign has also been renovated to a navy blue color scheme.
Based on the concept of "a road leading to a world of fantasy," the station has created a magical worldview by featuring illustrations of wizards and owls throughout, making it a gateway to that world.

Issues/requests

■Toshimaen Station
The exhibitor requested that the model trains, benches, telephone booths, and other items that were originally used at Toshimaen be used as photo spots, creating displays would unify the overall atmosphere while also taking safety into consideration.

■Ikebukuro Station
Ikebukuro Station is used by an average of 390,000 people per day, and we needed to ensure safety and visibility while creating concept design with an overall sense of unity that emphasized the station's unique worldview.

solution

■Toshimaen Station
To utilize the legacy of Toshimaen, we created a story and production that matched the magical world, making it displays that can be enjoyed not only by visitors to Studio Tour Tokyo, but also by local residents.

■Ikebukuro Station
We held repeated discussions with Seibu Railway regarding safety and visibility, and carried out full-scale verification on-site and sample confirmations before making the move.
