Twenty years have passed since the museum opened, and the “relationship between the lake and humans,” which has continued since the beginning, has been deepened as an displays that connects the displays with the scenery, the field, the life, and the thoughts.
The concept design that connects the displays with the landscape, fields, life, and thoughts is exactly what Lake Biwa is today, with experiences, dioramas, and living organisms, based on the 20-year progress and changes in each habitat, and the relationship with people. .
In the "Ikimono Collection" in displays room C, we created a space where you can feel the beauty and diversity at a glance with the specimens of the creatures that inhabit Lake Biwa and its catchment area.
In the aquarium displays room, visualizing underwater creatures led to an interest in living organisms. With the addition of the popular Baikal seals and micro-organisms in the Micro Aquarium, this new form of museum attracts many visitors and researchers.

Celebrating 20 years since its opening, the displays contents have been renewed and the aging facilities have been renewed.
The mission of the museum was to fulfill the role of the original Lake Biwa Museum, and to make a new start as a comprehensive museum that has evolved and is widely used by the people of the prefecture.
In addition, regarding the aquatic displays, it was requested that the ecology of the Baikal seal, which is the only freshwater seal in the world, be displays and introduced to the people of the prefecture. The client's request was to realize an displays composition that can be enjoyed and understood by a wide range of people, from children to adults, centering on Lake Biwa.

displays Room C explains the nature, ecology, folklore, and creatures of Lake Biwa through hands-on experience for visitors of all ages.
In the aquarium displays, attention was paid to extremely small plankton, and the shapes and ecology of plankton were introduced in a laboratory format, creating an displays that is unparalleled anywhere in Japan.
